“great sushi, reasonable prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2012

Forget Nobu, the sushi here is excellent, and much better prices. More traditional than some other high end suchi places, not a lot of crazy named made up rolls. Come here for the quality. great atmosphere- love the high ceilings that makes you forget you are sort of in the basement, great decor. Try the unagi pie- delicious

“great date night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

If you want to be surrounded by beautiful people and have a delicious meal, Matsuri is for you. Nestled in the Maritime Hotel, Matsuri has an excellent sake list, with daily sake specials, and a really creative sushi menu. We went for Restaurant Week which was a great way to experience what is normally a rather expensive night out, without breaking the bank.

“Great sushi and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2012

Wonderful surprise for a hotel restaurant. After a busy day of work it was so convenient to go downstairs and have such a great meal. It was also Restaurant Week and the prices were quite unusual for NYC. The mushrooms cooked in parchment purses were something to remember.

“Japanese at his best! With a lovely surprise.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2012

The restaurant is located in the basement of the Maritime hotel in the fancy Chelsea district, the design is typically Japanese and the space is characterized by the high ceiling of the main room. I've been there with colleagues and I must admit that it is joyful to dine in a place like this.
The food was delicious, every single plate that we had was special. Lobster soup, salmon and a variety of other sashimi pieces. To end we dabbled in a little sake tasting which was eye opening.
Furthermore we discovered that the restaurant is a favourite spot for classy gorgeous models, so...what a lovely surprise! This was all on top of a beautiful array of waitresses Overall, if you are looking for great food and an exciting crowd, this is a great environment to chill in!
