On a spartan corner in Chelsea, almost walked right by it. Relaxed atmosphere, more a local low-key type place. Very reasonable prices. The place is small and uninteresting and the facilities are pretty bad. The food is, well, average. Had the cassoulet, very hot. Super hot. Lots of beans and somewhat short on other ingredients. Service was disinterested and mostly absent. My dining partner had the beef bourguignon, also baked hot. It was classic french, but a little on the burnt side and not very remarkable. It was dark and rich but seemed to be missing the depth of flavor. Skipped desert. Would not go back.

First time, went based on prior reviews. Not as quaint as I thought it would be. The bathroom was a disgrace. The food was good. Had the salad with goat cheese in pastry. For my meal had the cassoulet which had a nice duck leg, a slice of sausage. Too many beans and not enough veggies.

Waitress did not check back during main meal. Did not warn us how hot dish casserole dish was. I asked for a refill of water and had to remind her again.

I'm not sure I would go again.

Our local French restaurant never fails to please...! We were there over holidays with friends and had a very relaxed time. The classics (like cassoulet) are superbly done and others (like grilled scallops) as well. It felt like we were in the French countryside despite being on 10th avenue. The service here is very attentive, but, like the overall feel of the place, quite relaxed.

La Luncheonette in Chelsea is a great choice if you are going to the 92nd St. Y for a concert. Very cozy with personalized service. Although my husband was not thrilled with his traditional onion soup, my roasted butternut squash made without cream (customer's choice to add or not to add the calorie laden cream) was quite good. I also ordered the trout almondine and was delighted to receive a large piece of fish perfectly filleted and smothered in almonds. The coffee was good but profiteroles were meh. In all, La Luncheonette is a fine choice for conversation and good food.

I've been going to La Lundhonette for YEARS. Way before 10th Ave in Chelsea was hip and happening. Small - almost a hole in the wall, the food is always great - LOVE THE BEEF BOURGUIGNON and their CASSOULET. And if you're real lucky, there's a quirky female singer who plays the accordion.
