This restaurant came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. We arrived about 10 minutes early. Our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar. This is a typical NYC restaurant, tables are in close proximity of each other and it's loud. If you are looking for a romantic evening, this isn't the place. If you are looking for high energy and great food, Balthazar fits the bill. When we were finally seated Brahim took our our order. We split the BALTHAZAR SALAD with haricots verts, asparagus, fennel, ricotta salata, and truffle vinaigrette. More than enough for two. Delicious. For our main course we split the STEAK AU POIVRE* with spinach and pommes frites. Again, more than enough, served hot and in a timely manner. It was my birthday so they brought out a dip of chocolate ice cream with a candle. A nice touch. The only downside of the night was listening to two couples, seated inches away from us discussing politics. That's the last thing we wanted to do on a Friday night after a busy week. Other than that, great restaurant, great decor. Highly recommend.
