I had the best steak as poivre with tiny pomme frites, a delicious martini and great wine. The meal was absolutely delicious, the service first rate, the table so much fun, banquette style. A bit higher priced but wonderful atmosphere, great lighting, loads of people and energy, competently handled. Will go back again and again. Also late night dining.

Lovely building. Busy. Lots of busy staff. Brunch was disappointing for most of our group except for the scrambled eggs in pastry. Scrambled eggs and corned beef - too salty. Eggs Florentine. No taste. Too watery. Scrambled eggs avocado and salsa. Salsa bland. Bacon dry and hard like greasy jerky. Tasteless milky coffee.

Okay ...... we were just at a Michelin Star restaurant last night that really was awful and we just finished having lunch at Balthasar’s.
I think Balthazar’s deserves the Michelin Stars.
What a great experience from the charming atmosphere, impeccable service and fantastic food.
Will always come back here!

Usually at Balthazar, I order the traditional Steak Frites, which features a skirt steak.
This time, I ordered the NY Strip Au Poive and it turned out to be fabulous.
A nice sized 14 oz cut, cooked to perfection, charred on the outside, and hot pink inside.
The Au Poive sauce was the best I have experienced in a long time.
The frites were very tasty, even dipped them in the sauce.
Nice feature was the friendly Maitre D Kouvidor who worked the floor to make sure Quest’s were happy.
Our female server was efficient and accommodating.

This restaurant has been around for many years and is still exciting to go to when we are in NYC. Love the food and atmosphere. Definitely not quiet but has a wonderful buzz about it.
