“Steak Frites!!!!”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Seating is at a premium at Balthazar. Don't be a prima donna eat at the bar. The bartenders are sharply dressed and very nice.

Stop by the bread shop and take some bread home.

“Brunch recommendation”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

The hotel recommend this restaurant. There was about a 30 minute wait for a table so waited 15 for chairs at the bar. There is a slightly eclectic range of food choices. Brunch is around $20 per person. We didn't have the most friendly service but the guys next to us had better service so a bit hit and miss. We had brunch 3 days in a row and this one I felt could have been a but better. Maybe a better place to go for lunch.

“Almost too popular, not sure why though...”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Very crowded, almost too crowded, buzzing atmosphere, we ate at the bar. Service excellent as we would expect, good but not inexpensive half bottle of wine and decent, though not top notch, food. Very good beet salad to share, followed by a tuna nicoise salad and a cheese burger ordered medium well but served between rare and medium rare. This shouldn't happen, especially at the prices this restaurant charges. All in all, not bad but not overwhelming either. So so in value.

“The recommendations paid off”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Balthazar was highly recommended among some of my friends who have graced the restaurant with something of a cult following. Being across town in the Central Park area it was tough to get to considering the snow that pervaded most of our visit.

While not fabulous in my mind it was a very solid meal for a very fair price coupled with good service. Of note was the duck shepard's pie--wow! The prep work that goes in to the food really is impressive and I can't wait to return to try the much vaunted breakfast.
