We stopped in for just lattes and pain au chocolates around 11am. It was not busy at that time so we were quickly seated.
We each ordered the same thing however only 1 croissant was brought to the table and the server was gone before we could call attention to the matter. After catching the attention of the waitress we did point out that we had ordered 2 croissants. When it was finally brought to the table, it was actually given to the table next to ours and despite them stating that it didn't belong to them, the waiter hurried off. Not sure why all that happened as it was not busy and not a very complicated order.
Despite that, we loved Balthazar. The atmosphere is very Parisian and it seems like a cool place to spot a celeb or 2. Prices are high but it is New York and one should expect that particularly in SoHo. It's part of the experience.
Although we didn't have any food other than the croissants, the dishes looked delicious.
Bring change with you when you use the restrooms downstairs. There are attendants and they are most gracious and enjoyable and appreciative of a tip.

My wife and I have lunch/diner every time we visit New York. It used to be a nice place with good food. Now the last lunch at Balthazar was quit unpleasant. The service was very hectic and stressed out. The food was good as always. The variety of the menu has not changed over all those years (please add some new dishes!). The whole atmosphere was like in a food factory where the most important thing is to make a huge turnover. Well, since Balthazar is mentioned in every restaurant guide book all over the world it has become more and more crowded. Well, there are other places to go in the future. I forgot to mention that when we had a drink at the bar we had to pay straight away which is very unpolite. Normally you pay your drinks bill when you leave the place.

Go here for: Duck fat Fries, Oyster Bloody Mary shots for Brunch and the Patisserie. There are benches outside and if you are lucky you can snag one while you sip a coffee, eat a pastry and watch the Soho Crowd strut by

While in walking around the Spring street area my wife and I noticed the Baltazar restaurant and thought it looked like a good place to try. We went there for a Sunday morning brunch and found it to be excellent. I had the cinnamon appple pancakes with bacon and my wife had the walnut waffle with berries. Yum! Food was great, coffee was excellent, service was great and old building is really unique. Definitley worth the time and money to go there.

As they say, when at first you don’t succeed try try try again. We turned up on a Sunday morning for brunch and were faced with a 45 minute wait for a table at a restaurant that was clearly jumping. We chose to beat a hasty retreat and try again on another day. And weren’t we rewarded for our perseverance! Three days later we came for brunch (which ends at 11.30 am) with 15 minutes to spare. We were offered both the lunch and brunch menus. We chose brunch and were rewarded with a great meal and pleasant efficient service. The ‘full English breakfast’ was simply wonderful and my partner’s omelette looked great. The decor of the restaurant belongs to another early period and is just magical and makes a visit to Baltazar a must for anyone visiting New York. I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. But do yourself a favour and make a reservation!
