“Wonderful Anniversary Dinner - you have to go there!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2012

My husband booked this restaurant after googling 'best anniversary restaurants in NYC' and doing some research & this kept coming up on the 10 best lists and now we know why! We walked into the restaurant & were greeted by the owners & staff very warm & welcoming. Were seated at the table immediately and had very professional wait staff (some of the best service we've had in NY!). My husband had seafood, I had steak and for dessert we shared a chocolate souffle which was exceptional. The ambiance was perfect and is the sort of place where you can dress in a pair of jeans with nice shirt or get dressed up in a suit & you would be comfortable either way. You can go as a family or have a romantic meal as a couple. We saw people enjoying themselves throughout the restaurant and we finished the evening by standing & chatting with the owners for about 10 mins at the end and they are a lovely couple who truly love being restauranteurs. You must have a dessert souffle!!!!

“Horrible experience!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2011

This, by far, was one of my worst experiences. We made reservations for close to 20 people to celebrate my birthday. Despite plenty of space in the corner, the owner (whom we communicated a few times prior to the occasion, and explained what we were hoping for), divided us into two separate tables. This was really exceedingly uncomfortable and NOT what we wanted. We made it very clear to him that we wanted one table because people wanted to express themselves, and this was impossible for others to hear, in this setting. Yet, he would NOT change the setting! The food was far from being great. Further more, throughout the evening, the waiters kept pouring wine into empty glass without asking if guests wanted more wine, thus there were countless wine bottles opened without our knowledge. The bill for the wine alone, at the end of the evening was close to a $900! This was outrageous! Plus, there were some gifts missing, including envelopes with cash and gift certificates! I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone!

“As Good As Always”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2011

This restaurant is off the beaten path just below Canal Street on Manhattan's West Side.

We went with friends one recent Saturday night, and arrived a half hour late for our reservation because of traffic delays on all routes into Manhattan. The hostess immediately put us at ease, stating that our tardiness was not a problem, and completely understandable.

The food was the main reason we went there, and it was as good as ever. The wait staff is professional and friendly.

“a hard to find place but with lots of tasty things to find on the menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2011

for a variety of reasons, this place was very hard to find; first, we were from out of town; second, we tried to walk from downtown without realizing its distance; third, when we finally decided to cab it, the cab driver couldn't find it, or, was pretending not to be able to find it so as to extract a higher fare; the point is, we were quite hungry by the time we got there and late for our reservation; but friends were waiting, and, the staff understood our predicament, and all went well after that.

not being a connoisseur of french cuisine, i cannot evaluate this place compared with other such restaurants; but all the food seemed well prepared; roasted duck was quite delicious and as menu suggest souffles are very well made. i heard no complaints about food from 9 or so of other people at the table. there seemed to be some complimentary appetizers, but, since we arrived late, it was unclear what they were

i usually care far more about quality of food than ambience, the latter of which can never make up for deficiencies in the former, but, this place had a very nice feel; perhaps there are similar places all over the city, but it was airy and had the right amount of light and the chairs but the right amount of space between diners and so it was a really nice place to enjoy good company

“Could do better, could do worse.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2011

Dinner with 10 people. Service was attentive and coutreous. A variety of dishes were purchased and from what I could ascertain, the quality varied by the dish. Apricot chicken was good, steak was tough, etc, etc. Good wine list at acceptable prices for an NYC restaurant. Blueberry crepes were outstanding. Somewhat hard to find location but a comfortable place to eat.
