Volare never disappoints. The food, service and ambience are superb. One of my favorite go-to restaurants in NYC.

A group of friends and I started a tradition of celebrating major birthdays at Volare for this reason: it is such a comfortable place. The staff treat you like family, make good recommendations, happy to make what you want. The food is great - not inexpensive but delicious and large portions and well worth what you are paying. Another reviewer here says Volare is "old school" as a compliment - that is a good turn-of-phrase. It is "familiar" in the very best sense of the word. Tell Sal when you are coming, ask for a booth and the staff will be waiting to help you squeeze through the entry and the bar to the beginning of a great meal.

I've been to Volare a number of times and this is definitely a return to restuarant in the village.
It's a nice little place with excellent food and impecable service, the kind of place you'll want to spend a few hours over dinner. I've never seen a menu when there, it's more a whatever and however you want something they will prepare it place...so be prepared to sit back and enjoy.
The meal consisted of cold anti pasta appetizer which is a nice mix of cheese, procuitto, salami, roasted and hot peppers and olives, all very fresh and perfect with the just right crispy crusted bread. Prima course was what I ask for as the "sausage pasta".....a wide
noodle sautéed with a light, slightly spicy ground sausage.....excellent! Main course was
Osso Buco.....fall off the bone veal shank in a delightful sauce.....my mouth is watering just
thinking about it! ;) All enjoyed with a bottle of wine. Dessert was mixed pastry....as we couldn't decide individually. Excellent meal!
Be warned, it can be a bit pricy but worth it. Typical meal with a bottle of wine and a few drinks before and after will run you approximately $150 a head.....but as I said well worth it.
Enjoy....

What's not to love, great Italian food combined with excellent service. This is an old school family Italian restaurant. When you step inside expect to be treated like family because that is how Sal is going to treat you. Volare has a good wine selection from Italy and the US. My friend had the Osso Buco which was excellent and I had the Pollo specialty of the day, also very good. Come hungry because the portions are healthy. This place is worth taking the subway from Midtown

Volare has been my favorite Italian restaurant for years now. The food is always wonderful and the staff is very welcoming. Most of the time we don't order from the menu, just what we are feeling for that night. The warm antipasto is amazing! It mixes clams, shrimp, calamari and lobster tails. My favorite dish is the veal milanese. It is prepared by pounding and flatting their veal chop topped with greens with light balsamic. The veal chop alone is always fresh and very large. Their daily pasta dishes are always delicious and have a lot of variety. I strongly suggest Volare for anyone who wants an old school NYC Italian restaurant with great food and people.
