We went to Gotham for dinner with some friends who dine there fairly regularly. One thing that struck me immediately upon entering the dining room was its very inviting design and ambience. I appreciated that the tables were not right on top of each other, which is sometimes the case in New York restaurants. Some people might not like the noise level. Though it's not as high as in some other places, it is still a fairly loud room.

Almost all of our dishes (especially soft-shell crabs and Muscovy duck) were excellent. A chicken and foie gras terrine could have had a bit more of the foie gras to make it a truly excellent dish. A pistachio and cherry mousse dessert was very tasty and pretty to look at.

The one true downer of the evening was our server. She rarely smiled and offered only the most perfunctory answers to questions. I think they have to try a little bit harder. Dinner at the Gotham is not inexpensive and customers should be able to expect some more enthusiasm from the servers.

Went here for restaurant week which is not always the best way to judge a restaurant due to the altered menu. But the food was exceptionally fresh and the dessert Gotham Chocolate cake (from the main menu) to die for. Best cake I have ever had, almost more Chocolate Mousse than cake. A must try. Service was very friendly and the open space outlay very enjoyable.

We knew when we went to New York City that we'd like to eat out in a really nice restaurant that wouldn't break the bank, and the Gotham Bar & Grill certainly fit that bill. We were welcomed into the restaurant, and our server, Delilah, took fantastic care of us. She certainly knew the menu described the food so that just listening to her was its own adventure. She made every effort to accommodate us and make the meal special. I highly recommend the Gotham Bar & Grill as a place for a lovely evening!

We were celebrating an engagement and decided to go there expecting a great dinner.
Honestly we were kind of dissapointed. First we all went for the suggested dishes, being the Cod one of them, and to be honest, it was pretty average. If tried much much better black cod ad Nobu. The salad was really god, but if I wanted to have a good salad I could do that at home and save some money and time.
We also asked for a great wine, and the waiter tried to push us to buy anothe bother because they "didn't have" the one we asked for, with the slight difference of 4 times the price!!! If it wasn't because we stopped him from oppening the bottle, we would have had a very tragic ending at dinner... not a nice thing from the restaurant. After making a big deal about it, the did find the one we wanted. A Premier vs a Grand Cru, who were they trying to take advantage of??? We know what we order... Shame on the waiter and on the manager.
For dessert we asked for a whole chocolate cake for all the table as a surprise for the couple that got engaged, and nevertheless they took dessert orders from the table. There was no communication from the manager with the waiters. One they brought the cake it was kind of raw in the inside.
Finally, the place had very poor atmosphere, I would have expected a very low volume music (violins, classic or something ad hoc), but nothing... till the end when we were the last table sitting.
I learned that no matter the price you pay, you don't receive what you deserve.

A restaurant that appreciates hospitality and serves good food deserves the accolades Gotham's diners give continuously give it. Went for a Restaurant Week lunch with two other guests one of whom was delayed and arrived late. Nevertheless, as busy as it was, the restaurant allowed us to take our time and accommodated our different being-served needs. One of the glories of Gotham is the spacing of tables so that conversations among diners is not compromised either by other diners or loud piped-in music. The service was exemplary, attentive without being fussy, and the food most flavorful, refreshing and satisfying. One diner's halibut was slightly overcooked and it was returned without question. Gotham's architectural space remains both expansive and restful even when the restaurant is full.
