“Still going strong”

Restaurant's come and go in NYC at a shocking pace but Gotham Bar & Grill has withstood the test of time and still delivers exceptional food and service. Try the striped bass ceviche appetizer, the gazpacho, Muscovy duck and you cannot go wrong. There's a decent selection of half bottles of wine perfect for mixing and matching your wine selection with competing food choices.

“A must when in New York”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

My family has been to Gotham on our annual trips to New York for the US Open. This is a great restaurant. There is so much about it that rates 5 stars: the atmosphere, the service, the food. We have eaten several times at Cafe Boulurd, which is good, but Gotham is is great. I can't believe someone complained about being "over serviced" ; they must not be used to a first class restaurant. Be sure to book early, as a reservation is tough to obtain.

“Farm to Table, not to frou-frou”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

This was a special lunch for some out of towners just visiting for the day. We are foodies introducing our teenaged sons to the wonderful world of gourmet food and Gotham did not disappoint. Servings were a fair size, which was important given the teenagers and their big appetites. Though the regular lunch menu was on the small size, there were several specials available on the Prix fixe menu that were offered ala carte as well, so there were plenty of choices. The beet salad was a hearty portion and perfectly accented with small nibbles of goat cheese. The soft shell crabs were done Asian style and unbeatable. One son pronounced the (mountainous) burger as best ever, and fries were delicious - seasoned just perfectly. Shrimp risotto was rich and generous with the shrimp. Bread was only so-so; a bit chewy for my taste.

The duck was the only slight disappointment. Though the accompanying quinoa and sauces were quite tasty (loved the textures of the fruit with the quinoa!) the duck breast itself, served off the bone of course, was just a bit tough. I have only had perfect duck just once in my life, in another foodie famous restaurant in NYC and this was definitely a second place to that one experience many years ago. If you love duck as I do, you will be happy with the duck entree, but this may not be the best choice for the non-converted. But overall, GC is the bomb! Oh, and last suggestion is to request a table in the main part of the room. Though we were all dressed nicely, and the youngest in our group was 16yo, AND the restaurant was pretty empty, we were seated at a table that seemed like it was thrown in at the front of the restaurant as an afterthought. It would be a good table for people bringing toddlers (!) but it had NO view of the room or the gardens that face to the back of the place. The room is really a delightful space, but it was unfortunate that we were relegated to "the annex" table. The service was attentive but not cloyingly so.

“Very Average food”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We visited Gotham Bar & Grill after reading some positive reviews on Trip Advisor. The restaurant itself presents itself well. However, I have to say that we were slightly disappointed with the service and with the food. Upon arriving at the restaurant our table wasn't ready (despite the place being half full) - We were ushered in to the bar area where we waited 5 minutes to be served (we were the only people waiting)
After about 15 minutes we were shown to our table.
I ate Seafood Salad, Lamb and Chocolate Sundae. All of which were edible, but none of which were great.
Just my opinion, but for the price I would give it a miss and book yourself a table at Marea! (I have written a review on Marea too)

“"SPECTACULAR SURPRISE DINNER FOR MY SON & HIS DATE!!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

My son wanted to surprise his date with a lovely dinner prior to seeing a Broadway play last week. So, I arranged for a 5:30 p.m. dinner @ the Gotham Bar & Grille.
They arrived a little after 5:00 p.m. (they begin serving @ 5:00 p.m.) . The maitre'd sat them in a lovely spot! Impeccable service, incredible food, and management arranged for car service to the theatre as well. Upon exiting the restaurant, a "limo" pulls up, opens the door, greets my son and his date by their first names, and off they went!!!! Perfect end to a beautiful day!!
