We arrived on 25th May to a construction site. Work was being done in the lobby with areas all sheeted off. We was not aware of this when booking and it wasn’t even explained to us what was going on when we arrived but we still paid full price for 5 star luxury, NOT!! Although on leaving we spoke to a someone who did apologise and he explained what was happening. The lobby was taking shape when we left on 30th May and I’m sure it will be lovely. The rooms are very tired but have been told will be done up along with other work. Not enough storage space, small wardrobe with one drawer and the rooms are very dark. It was my 50th birthday while we was in New York, the reason why we went and my husband tried to book a surprise special breakfast in the rooftop bar but was told no! He booked a hotel with a rooftop bar for this reason. Instead we went to another hotel for the rooftop experience. Staff in the rooftop bar came across as rude and unhelpful, maybe it’s because we had an 11 year old child with us, not family friendly at all. Location was brilliant and I guess that’s what you pay for but as for the hotel, not luxurious as explained. People need to be told of renovation work in advance as it’s very off putting arriving to a building site!

Just let down by this place. Location wise was ideal, Central Park is literally around the corner but I got a real sense of how tired the hotel was, particularly our room and floor. The lobby is non-existent and had tape holding the ceiling together.

The photos show quite a cool looking hotel. In reality, the room we were in (2804) was not. No safe in there either, and just random bits of furniture... the fridge was just plugged in the middle of the room.

Good bits were the rooftop bar and the bar on the ground floor. Clearly both places is where the money is being spent.

The Viceroy surprised me. My room was in the 24th floor. Looks like recently remodeled , it was a gorgeous room. Very clean, confy bed and the perfect size for a NYC hotel. I ordered breakfast in room and it was delivered in less than 10 minutes and it was delicious.
The lobby is being remodeled, but that was not a problem for me, I was looking for a good room , a good rate and a perfect location and The Viceroy has it all!

Stayed here for 3 nights in April 2019 and was disappointed. The lobby was under construction and was not usable so they set up the concierge in a 2nd floor conference room with coffee to replace the lobby. We had a room with a king size bed which was approximately 240 square feet se we were tripping over each other. The bathroom was nice and we enjoyed the shower. The air-conditioning was not working well and it was loud. We could not get the coffee maker to work. There is a rooftop bar that was nice to have. They gave us access to an athletic club which was 8 blocks away. On the day we were checking out the elevator was not functioning.

I understand that they are making improvements to the hotel but we were shocked when they charged us a $29 plus tax amenity fee when there were no amenities. After our hotel stay I called the hotel to complain about the amenity fee twice and left messages and no one returned my call.

The positives about the hotel was that the staff seemed nice and the concierge was very helpful. The negative is this hotel should not have charged us the "resort fee" and acknowledged that they were having issues. Instead, the experience was negative and we will not be going back.

Thank you for sharing the specifics of your stay. We regret your disappointment with the amenity fee and for any discomfort that ongoing construction in the lobby may have caused you. Also, we are sincerely sorry for the issues you encountered with the air conditioning unit, and your feedback has been shared with our engineering team to address the issue. However, we are happy to read you liked our rooftop bar and that our courteous associates took great care of you, especially our concierge. We truly hope you will consider giving us the opportunity to make it up to you on another visit.

Chris Carrow is one of the best concierge's I have dealt with. He was so incredibly informative and enhanced our stay in New York to new levels. Every single place, play or other entertainment venue he recommended was right on. He is a master of customer service.
