“Perfect Family Stay”
Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here March 16-21 for Spring Break....it was a perfect location for all of our needs... accessible to the subway, Times Square etc. We were on the 17th floor facing the Empire State Building. Great view to return to everyday. Loved the contemporary decor of the hotel. Every member of the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. If you want to utilize the complimentary breakfast, get there early and expect a crowd. The free Wi-Fi was a nice extra as well. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Hi Heather 1869,

Thank you for staying with us for your Spring Break trip! I am delighted to see that you very much enjoyed our hotel, and found our property an ideal fit for you. You are very correct in saying that you should arrive to breakfast early if you would like to avoid a crowd, as you can see we do not have an abundance of space so we try to make the most out of what we do have.

Thank you for your review and we look forward to serving you again in the future!

Recently stayed at the SpringHill Suites in Midtown Manhattan. There are pros and cons to staying here. The pros are as follows:
-Great location, ideally located in the heart of midtown
-Very courteous and friendly staff
-It's a new property with rooms that are very clean
-Rooms feature a mini fridge and microwave
-Very competitive rates for NYC
That being said, there are many cons to consider before booking a room here:
-The rooms are not really "suites," but rather hotel rooms that feature a very small sitting area with a sofa and desk separated somewhat by a partition
-The rooms are very small and quirky, there's only one tv so it has to be angled in such a way as to be able to see it from the bed
-The decor in the rooms and the hotel overall is a bit "funky" with lots of bright vivid colors and new wave furnishings, very modern, but I found it to be a bit tacky
-The rooms in the back of the hotel have absolutely no view and overlook like what appears to be a construction site.
-The bathrooms at this hotel are tiny. The bathroom I had featured a shower that was practically right on top of the toilet. In addition, there's no vanity in the bathroom, just a basin with a glass shelf that literally hangs over the the sink and the toilet, very awkward, tall people should beware, you may find the bathrooms very difficult to maneuver!

I would not stay at the SpringHill Suites in Midtown Manhattan again nor would I recommend it.
The overall furnishings and the ridiculously small bathrooms were enough to turn me off to this property. There are better places to stay in Manhattan that are similarly priced such as the Hilton Garden Inn on West 35th Street as well as the nearby Marriott Courtyard right near Herald Square.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel have the views

Hello Jamesway,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel for your recent New York City trip. I apologize that your stay did not meet your expectations. As you can see from previous reviews we take all guest feedback very seriously, and pride ourselves in making sure that all our guest’s enjoy their stay. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed our staff service, location, and room features. As you stated the size of our rooms are compact, but we try to maximize the small amount of space that we have. The television mounting on the wall is something we have looked into and are trying to find an alternative so that it is more functional no matter where in the room a guest is sitting. I have shared the rest of your feedback for areas of improvement with other members of our staff and management team, so that we can come up with creative ways to make our hotel more appealing to the different types of travelers we have staying with us.

Please let us know if you decide to try our hotel again, we will be more than happy to ensure your next stay meets your expectations. Thank you again, for letting us know your feedback so that we can improve.

Sincerely,

Stayed for 3 nights in early February. Would stay here again next time I go back to NYC. Great location, really really friendly staff.

Buffet breakfast is compact but great if you're up early and on the go. Be prepared for the plastic cutlery and plates. You can get take away coffee though.

Room was very clean and modern. Great view of the Empire State from our window. Really comfy beds. Room faced the street but no noise. Room was cleaned every day but I never saw the staff! It was great to be able to sleep in the morning if you wanted to and there were no trolleys rattling in the corridors in the morning or a knock on your door early in the morning for room service.

This hotel doesn't have a bar or somewhere to grab a bite but that didn't bother us. Plus it had FREE Wifi!! That is rare in NYC hotels. Would highly recommend the hotel and will be staying here again.

I stayed at this hotel for a 2 nights on a business trip. Location is right in the middle of midtown, Grand Central only a short walk and a 30 min cab ride to EWR.
Comfortable beds, rooms aren't huge but functional, free printing available in the lobby area business centre. Breakfast Included, standard (only annoying point was if you are in a rush they don't have anything that is easy to grab and go - IE. a cereal bar or pastry, etc.

They also charged my credit card 0.18 cents even though the room was prepaid. I still have no idea what this was for and didn't have the heart to complain about it.

They also de-feathered my room on request. (allergic to feather bedding)

Room Tip: Ask for a room that isnt near the elevator, the constant binging can drive you a little mental. Bo...

Good Afternoon thebeason,

Thank You for staying with us for your New York City business trip. It sounds like you enjoyed our hotel's location, rooms, and breakfast. Thank you for your feedback as we are always looking for ways to improve our service at the hotel. Additionally, I really like the idea of having a grab and go option for business travelers like yourself. We will definitely look into that for another option for on the go customers. We hope you will stay with us again for your future trips.

Thanks Again,

We stayed here first week in March 2014 and travelled as a couple.

The hotel is very clean and modern looking and the check-in was effortless. Very friendly and helpful staff on the front desk and always a bright smile with friendly advice and information.

The room was on the 2nd floor, so overlooking the derelict building opposite. It did appear that there were on-going building works there, so the view should improve over time. Having said that, we just kept the blinds closed as it wasn't an issue for us and there was no noise from the construction site.

The room was compact, but catered for most things and was very comfortable. As mentioned in other reviews, the heating/air-con unit was very noisy, so having it on during the night was impossible. We used it to either give the room a quick boost of heat (it was -8C outside when we visited) or actually cool it down slightly as the room was lovely and warm anyway. There was a fridge and a microwave which were very handy. There was also a single cup filter/kettle machine that you fill with a cup of water, insert the coffee sachet (provided) and push the button. The machine would then proceed the heat the water and steadily filter it through the sachet. As a UK resident, a normal kettle and tea bags would have been useful, but we had anticipated this and brought teabags anyway which fitted in the filter machine perfectly. Obviously we could only do one cup at a time, but no great hardship. A small carton of milk in the fridge would have been nice, but we just grabbed one from the breakfast area the following morning. (see below)

The shower was big and hot, and there were plenty of towels. However, the door to the shower room/toilet was opaque which meant turning the light on during the night flooded the bedroom with light. It also means that using the toilet itself is not for the self-conscious.

Storage space for clothes was compact and limited if you want to hang full length clothes due to the safe being in the wardrobe. Not a problem for us though, and we did appreciate the safe in the room. There was also an ironing board and iron if needed and the hair drier was useful.

Bed was very comfortable with lovely big, soft pillows and quilt.

Breakfast area is ridiculous. To call the breakfast area small is an understatement. We never managed to get a seat and to navigate round the throngs of people in a morning was a task in itself. There was no orderly queue and no "direction" and only ever saw one catering type of person - so everyone was just piling in. The plastic plates and cutlery were very flimsy as well.

However, having said that, we just grabbed what we wanted and took it back to our rooms. Towards the back end of our stay, we did see some people using the trays from their rooms to carry stuff and wish we'd thought of that. (we took a carrier bag). There was a good selection of bagels/bread/muffins/etc, but the toasters were painfully slow and hence caused even more congestion as people stood around for the 5 - 10 minutes it took to toast a bagel. There were also cereals, scrambled eggs and one choice of meat (depending on the day, there was ham or small turkey burgers), croissants (if you are quick enough) and muffin cakes, fruit (apples, pears, oranges and bananas (although bananas disappeared rapidly as well). Two small fridges contained cartons of milk and yogurts and there were machines for tea/coffee and juice.

As we were on the 2nd floor, we were always woken by the scraping of chairs across the floor in a morning (breakfast starts at 06:30 during weekdays. Perhaps a few felt pads on the legs is needed?

With regards the location, the hotel is a few minutes walk away from the Empire State Building, Times Square, Broadway theatres, Penn and Grand Central Station, and plenty of options for the Subway. There is a roof deck with fantastic views of the Empire State Building and it is a shame they haven't converted it to a rooftop bar like the hotel next door (where we just went instead)

All in all - a very clean and comfortable hotel with excellent and dedicated staff.

Hello pzh41,

Thank you for the great rating. You are correct that the building behind us is undergoing renovation so it is not much to look at currently, but in the future it should be much nicer. I apologize that the air conditioning in your room was making a loud noise. In the future please feel free to let us know anytime there is any kind of maintenance issue. We have someone on staff 24-hours today that will be happy to assist.

I understand your frustrations regarding how crowded the breakfast area was during your stay, and it is an area that we are continuously trying to improve. We are going to be adding some additional counterspace to try and spread the buffet out and make it easier for our guests.

As with any hotel there are always things that can be improved, and the only way to find those things out is by getting feedback from our guests. Thank you for providing areas of imprvement so that we can continue to find ways to make our guest's experience even better.

We hope to see you again in the future and thank you again for staying with us!

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel to visit the city.
Location: perfect, between 5th and 6th avenue, close to empire statements and a few blocks away from time square.
Room: small (normal for NY) but for us large enough, very comfortable room, with very good bed. Very clean, modern and nice decorated.
Service: very friendly
Restaurant: only breakfast available but plenty restaurants close by. Breakfast is average, as Europeans we missed good bread. Buffet with plastic disposable plates, prefer to eat and drink in real plates and to bad for the environment...
I would definitely recommend this hotel!!!

Good Afternoon AnonymousSwiss,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at our hotel. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your room and the location of our hotel to the surrounding area.

I definitely understand why you would prefer to have actual plates rather than disposable, and if we could provide these we would rather. Unfortunately due to the nature of our breakfast service and the large number of guests that we serve everyday limits some of the things that we can provide.

Thank you very much for your recommendation and feedback, we greatly appreciate it and will see you next time!

Good location, half block off of 5th Ave just south of Bryant Park. We stayed in a comfortable suite on the 19th floor. Actually one big room with a TV separating the two areas.
There is a sun deck on the roof but didn't go out in January.
Breakfast is included, never crowded but very light on food, just basic scrambled egg and some kind of sausage. Still better than the new Courtyard Marriott Starbucks breakfast sandwiches.
Two elevators always available, no waiting.
Our room had a great view of the Empire State building.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor (19) for the loft like windows.
