I have not had Ethiopian food many places, but I thought this was very good. I love honey wine and we ordered a bottle for the table. They had two appetizers: injera salad and toasted injera (not really toasted but heated and seasoned) that I never had before that was quite tasty. I ordered the vegetable combo. Everything was delicious and what I had before, chick peas, string beans, cabbage and potatoes, except the collard greens were made with a cream that was not what I expected. Others had the combo with meat and also a lamb dish and a chicken dish. Entres came with 2 vegetables. And of cour9se served traditional style with injera. Nice sized portions. The place was decorated nicely although a little worn, we were the only ones there. Initially no music but they did turn it on. Not sure if it was empty because it was mid week or because of location. Service was freindly and attentive. I would definitely go back. If you like Ethiopian or want to try it, give this place a try.

I went to Lalibela Restaurant repeatedly during my stay in New York in August, 2013.
I enjoyed the excellent Ethiopian food with Ethiopian hospitality. I found it to be one of the best Ethiopian Restaurants in the U.S. I have ever been. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Saturday night. 8pm. You would think that a restaurant would have its full array of menu items available. Not here. I would like to say that it was because they ran out of things because they were so busy. But this was not the case. When we entered there were only 5 tables occupied, leaving about 75% of the place vacant. Sambosas? Nope. Lamb dishes? Nope. Injera looked old. What they did have available seemed like the kinds of things you made the day before, almost as if the regular chef was off and they didn't cook anything fresh. What food we did eat was tasty. Service was very slow, and inattentive. Decor was nice, sleek, modern with dark woods predominating. But I won't give this place another try.
