Neighborhood: Midtown
Description: It all started back in 1969 at the opening of a restaurant and a bar called "Pig n Whistle". The original restaurant was located in the Old Townhouse of President Taft on West 48th street, in the heart of New York's Rockefeller Center, the friendly people and atmosphere quickly became the meeting place for New York's literary and banking elite. The new "Pig and Whistle" on West 36th Street, in the heart of the fashion district, has the look and the feel of the historic townhouse where it all began. From the oak bar and paneling on back bar, upstairs bar that is available for private parties and balcony overlooking 36th street, "Pig and Whistle" continues to follow the same detail and style as that gracious home in Rockefeller Center.

My final afternoon in New York. Empire State? Guggenheim? Nope, tired and thirsty I decided to watch Spain play in the World Cup, with friends joining me soon after. Was given a table right in front of a big screen, and had a couple of beers and some food and watched 'soccer'. Chicken wings were so good I ordered another portion a couple of hours later. Decent service, although at times struggled to get the attention of our waitress.

We visited this restaurant as it was near our hotel. Initially we were impressed with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. However service was slow, the food was average and our food order was consistently wrong. Staff weren’t particularly bothered about putting it right. Once we were seated and had ordered they seemed to lose interest.

Quiet expensive and not really worth it for the food or the service.

Left the Pig N’ Whistle feeling short changed...and not only because Scotland got hammered. 20$ cover for six nations entry which included breakfast (don’t even think about asking for a veggie option). Nice, cosy bar with good screen coverage and reasonable beer prices. Service was what let it down (one individual), we were made to feel like a burden- a bit of common curtesy and it would be have been great.

Called in her on the off chance, seated right away, served and ordered efficiently. Food was delicious, waitress courteous and helpful. Really enjoyed it - plus it's a dedicated Rugby bar which in NYC is a first! Would recommend.

Pig 'n' Whistle was less than a block from our hotel so we headed over. Nice variety on menu and all our choices were really good, especially the burger and shepherd's pie (though actually cottage pie, not shepherd's pie). Service was fast and friendly--our tea was refilled quickly, dishes brought out quickly. Nice comfortable atmosphere--not too loud and the temperature was appropriate. Clean restrooms, clean dining room. Would definitely recommend for good comfort food, reasonably priced (for NYC).
