“Comfortable, classy,close and quiet”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

This hotel was selected for one night only as other accommodation had been organised for a further week's stay. As I was coming from the airport with a suitcase it needed to be near the Metro (A line) and it is about 30 metres from the 34th st /Penn station. It is on a quiet section of 33rd st between 8th and 9th and once inside the airy modern foyer you can forget you are in the very noisy NYC. The room was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable and I had views down to the Freedom Tower. I slept well after a fairly sleepless overnight flight from Vancouver and woke refreshed. Breakfast was included and there was quite a variety of hot and continental options. The bonus of the rooftop bar, although sadly I did not have time to spend there....is something they should boast about as it is a lovely place to be on a balmy evening. With all the crazy taxes it did not quite work out as inexpensive as first thought but still well under the pricey 5 star hotels nearby.

Room Tip: I would recommend above the 5th floor so you are above the stately and very large Post Office buildi...

A family of 3 with a young child. Stayed a week and the hotel in a suite. On check-in, we were given a studio room when we booked a suite. After we checked the room and queried the room type, the staff member who originally served us at reception shrugged and seemed disinterested in helping. Another staff member stepped up and fixed it right away but made us feel like they were doing us a favour rather than honouring our booking. Not what we expected when I notified the manager of the hotel a week in advance of our arrival time (7pm), and after 24 hrs of travelling from Australia to New York. The hotel is in a rather dodgy, poorly lit street with homeless people gathering for a nightly feed from a soup van. There is also a lot of construction going on in the street at the moment, and sleep can be interrupted by jack hammers, heavy machinery, and diesel generators operating all night. Food in the area is all quick-service restaurants and diners as it is near Madison Square Gardens/Penn Station/movie theatre complex. Not a lot of variety in cuisine nor quality for travelling families eating out. The hotel's saving graces are that it is quite new so everything looks nice, clean, and modern, it is a great location for getting to/from/around Manhattan as it is right near Penn Station and the subway, and the included breakfast buffet makes getting started each day a little easier although it is quite busy (what the heck is turkey bacon?). Overall, we enjoyed our stay but that was probably due to the excitement of New York and not the hotel experience.

Room Tip: The street side of the hotel is noisy from construction and generators, but higher floors may be qui...

Green Features: Couldn't really see anything I would call environmentally-friendly practices. The breakfast room was all disposable plastic plates, cups, utensils, etc. No recycling anywhere. Made me wonder where all the trash ended up.

The location is great less than 5 minutes walk from Macy's and a minute away from Penn station. I must say the first night the AC had a very odour but I was upgraded to city view room straight away, breakfast was average but it is complimentary the service provided throughout the stay was good. You can even book tours in the hotel which is good if its the first time you are visiting New York. Definitely would stay here again.

Room Tip: Definitely City View

We stayed in this hotel 3 nights and really enjoyed ourselves! There are several places close by to eat and fairly easy location to catch a cab if you need to go further than walking distance. We did walk home from Broadway one evening (which my pumps/feet later regretted). It can be done with comfortable shoes. The room is small as some other reviewers wrote but it is right in the middle of Manhattan so cannot complain one bit. Our daughter met us by taking a train in from CT so it was really convenient to meet her there and a family friend came in from Philadelphia. The beds were comfortable and had several pillow selections. The towels weren't great as someone mentioned but good enough for a 3 night stay. The room reminded me a bit of staying in a cruise ship room because there is limited storage and limited places to move around but being in NYC we were hardly in our room!

Favorite thing - Rooftop Bar! We could even go up there sometimes when the bar was closed (like with morning coffee). One morning it was closed but the other times it was open. The bar had pretty good cheese pizza and drinks. We stayed in room 2111 (I think there were 23 floors then rooftop). It was a "points" stay so I was VERY excited we did not get stuck somewhere of lower quality because of being "free". If we get back to NYC we will for sure stay there! See other reviews for shows and eating locations we visited (some close to hotel and others closer to Broadway and Little Italy).

Breakfast at the hotel was a bit of a mad house since it is included in the cost of the stay. I think EVERYONE opted to eat there. We ate at the hotel once and chose to go out the rest to have a more relaxing breakfast. Buffets are not my favorite thing. They did have scrambled eggs and sausage on the buffet along with the usual so it is adequate and great with a family!

Highly recommend this location - high floor!

Room Tip: High floor

There is construction across the street. Jackhammer pounding all night long - took a break for 10 minutes every hour. Did not get one minute of sleep. Make sure you know that construcion is finished before you check in . OR ask for room on back side of hotel. OR bring good earplugs.
Was not told this would be the case when I checked in. Upon check out, when i nicely informed desk staff that they needed to warn guests..or give them earplugs, their only response was that we cannot be responsible for what the city does. While that is true.. they we not very customer service friendly-- no i am sorry, how can we make it up to you-- just a its not our fault you were kept up all night.. NIce response. Front desk needs training. For this pleasantness I paid over 400$ a night.

Room Tip: check about the construction before you book

Tgio, Thank you for taking your time out to write a review and for your honest feedback. On behalf of my team, I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you experienced during you stay with us. As you can imagine the work being completed across the street was unbeknownst to us at the hotel and we have been notified that the work was something temporary and is completed. Again, our apologies for the inconvenience that you were caused. If you travel plans bring you back to New York we would like you to contact us to assist directly with your reservation.

Brand new Marriott (2013) at the heart of NYC next to Penn station in front of US Gov. So everything is easily reachable. Clean. Room interior design is the same as in the other Marriott hotels with slight variation. Nice reception area. Friendly staff. Parking is just next to it. Not noisy at nights so i slept well.

I had meetings in New york on a Monday, which made it pleasant to come in by train instead of flying. This hotel is a block from Penn Station and within two blocks of six subway lines, making it an ideal location. The place is new, the people are extremely polite and accommodating, the rooms are clean, and the breakfast is quite decent (eggs ,meats, cereals, breads, fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee). I'll be back!
