“A little cheaper and less hectic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

My daughter and I stayed here last week for her graduation present. We were a bit shocked at first by how small the rooms and the floors were, but this is New York City... I think unless you are staying at the Plaza you are probably going to end up with a very tiny hotel room. It didn't really matter because we didn't plan on staying in the hotel very much, of course not! There was a whole city to explore!
We really like staying at Hampton's, as they are pretty consistent. This one didn't disappoint. The front desk staff was very helpful, and we got to check in early. We had a little water in the bathroom as we arrive, and the maintenance staff was very friendly, offering us some information about pizza we were looking for.
There is a nice little regular hotel breakfast that cuts down on eating out costs, which is always nice.
We were a little further away from the hustle and bustle, but I think that made it a little nicer. The hotel is a few blocks down from Grand Central Station, which of course easily took us to Times Square on the Subway.

Room Tip: Just 2 blocks down from Grand Central Station Expect rooms to be small, but still nice and seemed q...

Hello Pinksparklypony,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! Congratulations on the graduation!!!!!! New York is a great treat, and we are very happy that we could be part of your special trip! The hustle and bustle of New York is a big part of what makes it such a special city, but it is nice to not have to sleep in the commotion or fight your way throught the crowds to get into your hotel. It sounds like you took full advantage of the subway system located a block and a half away to get around; the subway system is a safe, efficient and easy way to get around, and is only a block away. The cab bills can really add up in the city, so we're happy to see that you took advantage of the train system!

Regards,
Hampton Inn United Nations TEAM

Mr. Karl R,

It seems like you were able to enjoy all that we have to offer and the surrounding areas, that's awesome! Which restaurants would you recommend to those that will read your review? One of my favorites is Pietro's (Italian, across the street from us), and there is a good Mexican restaurant called Pompano that is open M-F, 12-3. We hope that you will come back soon and we can find some new restaurants for you to try!

It is a typical Hampton Inn, which is a big compliment IMO. I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that I have not liked. Free FAST WiFi. Free hot breakfast (supposedly the bfast room is small, but I took the food up to my room, so don't mind). Rooms are small, but comfortable. Travelling on business, I can handle a small room. The building is on a side street, so a little hard to find, but it is quiet. It is very close to a lot of things, e.g. Bryant Park, Grand Central, UN, etc. The gym equipment is brand new. Nice hotel. Expensive, obviously, but everything around here is, so that is the status quo.

Hello Tannershamrock,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on our hotel! Since we are a brand new hotel, our fitness center is fully stocked with brand new gear and very clean. It was also nice to hear that you found our room quiet enough to provide a good nights sleep and spacious/ comfortable enough that you decided to dine in for breakfast!

Pre, during and post experience at this well located Hampton Inn could not have been better. I found the rooms to be very clean, breakfast was on the high end for a Hampton Inn, and the staff were extremely helpful. I checked the day of internet rate, which was 15% cheaper and they honored the difference.
Subways are a bit over two blocks to the west in Grand Central Station and the UN is two blocks to the east. St. Angus has a 5:10pm on Saturday evening and there are plenty of places to eat.
The only negative was the lack of nearby running locations. Central Park is 17 short blocks to the north (you can ride the subway to and from) and if you run early in the morning, traffic isn't too bad.
I will revisit this location.

This hotel was in an excellent location. 3 blocks from the UN and within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, Madison ave, and even Central Park. Central park was about a 2 1/2 mile walk though. Great hotel. I am a 33 year old female and felt very safe staying here on my own.

Dear Mrs. Woodcock,

It pleases us to hear that you felt safe in our hotel and surrounding area during your time in New York City. We are located in one of the safest areas, with police officers stationed on the corner of our hotel every second of every day, as they are posted there in case of an emergency at the UN, but are always polite and helpful and their presence goes a long way in fostering a safe, comfortable environment. We hope that your business trip was a successful one, and if you are coming back to NY in the future, we will have a bed for you!

Location! Though the rooms and hallways were quite small, the location was excellent. We could easily get to all major transportation needed - Grand Central is two blocks away. Staff were helpful. Hotel was also very quiet...a treat in New York City.

On previous business trips to midtown Manhattan, I usually stay at higher end hotels (e.g. Grand Hyatt). This time, for price and location I thought I'd experiment with this hotel. I was ready to be disappointed.

Check-in was quick and efficient, but the very small lobby (just a few chairs and a very small desk/counter) only increased my fear that the experiment was not going to turn out well. Just two elevators, just eight rooms on the floor... this is NOT the Grand Hyatt.

But once I got in the room, I was happy. Sure, there are a few things that tell you it's not a high-end hotel: paper cups instead of glasses in the washroom, for example. But I had everything I needed, the room was clean and modern, the bed was very comfortable, the TV was good and well-positioned, there was a desk to work at, and in-room wi-fi was free, easy to connect to, fast and reliable.

The bathroom was perfectly fine -- no tub, but I don't need one. Instead, a nice shower separated from the rest of the bathroom only by the shower curtain. Amenities were fine.

There was nothing fancy about this room, but it was just what I needed for this short business trip.
