“On its way to being an excellent place to stay”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

The Hyatt Union Square has a lot going for it and once they work out a few kinks, it will be an excellent place to stay.

Location - Union Square is served by so many subway lines that it is easy to get anywhere but sometimes it took longer than expected. Enjoyed the Greenmarket and convenience to LES, Greenwich Village and Chelsea.

Accommodations - We stayed in an Urbane King Studio and found it a good size plus the open design helped to make it feel even more spacious. I liked the flooring, lighted closet and the lighting system that provided both bright and ambient lighting. Great water pressure in the shower, super comfortable bed with very soft, luxurious linens. We faced 4th Ave. and the room was super quiet with great blackout shades. No problem with the A/C but would recommend running the fan on medium then you never notice the A/C cycling on and off.

Staff - always eager to please. A minor delay at check in and we were given a beautiful cheese plate and nice bottle of wine. We were also given a late checkout which was a great convenience. Obviously the hotel will accommodate you when they can without those unnecessary surcharges.

Areas to improve - it took three nights until they got turndown service correct ... Not just the bedding pulled back but also fresh towels, wastebaskets emptied and room tidied. So housekeeping needs to work on this but in other areas, they excel. I never saw the hallways cluttered or littered and the rooms are super clean.

Not having wifi was ok - I never expect it in higher end hotels but bottled water in the room would be a nice addition. I just got used to grabbing an extra bottle from the well equipped exercise room.

I would definitely stay here again.

Have choosen the Hotel for the great location at Union Square. I would rate it as very comfortable and casual. The rooms are quite basic, however very clean with Laminate floor (feels a bit cheap) and the lightening system and the music system are first class as well as the very comfortable bed and real luxurious soft and crisp linnen. I asked for a Yoga mat and a water cattle, both came after 5 minutes. They offer a bunch of amenities on request, however free of charge and do not fill the room with unnecessary items guests want use. Staff is quite friendly, typical NY-style, very efficient and professional. The adjecent Restaurants seems to be trendy, did not visit. Room rate this time is around US 600.-- so not cheap, however worth the price in view of location.

Needed a hotel near Union Square as we were attending a function near there, not many to choose from so had to pay the $710.00 fee for one night .Very trendy design throught out the hotel and rooms are nice but very small. We didn't use the resturants on site but they looked interesting and if we were staying longer we would have, staff were very pleasant only downside was an hour wait for them to get our car from valet parking.Would defiantly stay again just not sure I want to pay so much for one night .

Caught off guard in New York for in the three-day Labor Day weekend as we had not factored it in and ended our stay too soon at a very nice Flip Key apartment on the upper west side to move downtown to the West Village for a fun weekend. We hurriedly booked anything we could find online which was the Hyatt Union Square. It is fairly new and relatively hard for the experienced taxi driver to find although it has a very prominent corner across Union Square, it is in a very sterile business area, a block or so from the boring Union Square Park, where not only smoking is not allowed; but also no animals, which are usually more exciting than the people in the park! The hotel itself -- run by the LGBT community (which you'd think would give it some "wow" factor or flair, or excitement) -- takes on the same boring, sterile atmosphere as the Park. It attempts, but misses, to be a high end luxury hotel as the other SPG property -- the W, a long standing 5-star boutique hotel several blocks away direct facing the Square. What is does succeed in doing -- even in its infancy -- is duplicating the W's rates. For three nights, even considering the Labor Day weekend, we paid $1,500 -- averaging $500 p/n! Soo not worth it -- even in New York! The king size bed was too hard and not to my liking. Listen, I'm not saying the hotel is bad, it's not. It is modern, trendy (just not my kind of trend) and new. The staff is young but responsive and the rooms are small but well-appointed (although the "garden view" leaves a lot to be desired -- especially from the 9th floor). I am saying that the Hyatt Union Square NY is not ready for prime time and prime time rates -- it has a ways to go! I have and most likely will pay Hyatt Union Square NY rates for a comfortable, luxury stay in New York hotels, but there are too many other hotel choices to choose from and the Hyatt Union Square NY will not be one of them.

Room Tip: Don't book a "garden room" on the 9th flor.

I stayed here one night with my husband and found it very nice although it wasn't a high end luxury hotel. It is more modern / trendy / young.
The staff was very nice and let us check in at noon which was early. The rooms are small but still a decent size for NY. Our king size bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were super soft. The black out shades blocked out the light completely and even though we were on 4th Ave which is really busy, the windows were completely soundproof.
The location is great in the heart of Union Sq. - 1 block from most major subway lines. There are a ton of little restaurants and shopping (it's also easy to walk to W. Village and Soho).
The negatives were that wifi isn't complimentary (this always really annoys me - when you're spending several hundreds of $ a night, wifi should always be free). I also called to ask for bottled water and they didn't have any complimentary options (the Fiji bottle in the room was $8 - no thanks!).

Had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Union Square. This was my first time staying in the Union Square area and I really enjoyed the neighborhood. Transportation was easy to / from the airport and anywhere in Manhattan. The hotel is new and the rooms are very pleasant. I had an excellent stay. Everything was fantastic.

Green Features: Excellent - I requested the sheets be used for the entire stay and they were!! This never happens.
