Great musical! True to the original story, greatly presented by the actors. Side note; if you're not a fan of opera, this probably isn't the best musical for you ;)

Starts of slow and takes a little while to get into it but once it does it's very much worth it. Well acted. A great night out on Broadway.

We saw the Phantom many years ago on Broadway. We'd seen the show with the amazing Michael Crawford and my wife I have also seen it a few other times over the years.. The show then was excellent overall. There have always been a few gliches in the show that always bothered me when compared to it's overall excellence, but all in all it was and still is a very good show that will rise and fall with the casting and skill of the two leads.
In this case we saw Norm Lewis whom we also saw as Javert in the show Les Mis some years back. Norm is an excellent actor and singer and he did not disappoint at all. In fact next to Michael Crawford and Ramin Karimloo, Norm was the most impressive Phantom we have seen.
But the highlight of the show for us was someone even beyond the phenomenal Mr. Lewis. That was Sierra Boggess. This was the first time we'd seen a Christine that was not just a vulnerable waif, but a full and complete woman with many levels too her. Sierra is an artist of the highest calibre. She sings and acts with equal skill, talent and depth. Her performance along with one other we saw this week was the among the handful of greatest performances we ever saw. This woman was most impressive when we saw the dvd of the performance at the Royal Albert Hall, but in person on this night she was staggering and unforgettable. Ms. Boggess is one of the greatest artists to ever appear on a Broadway Stage. I can say that with some confidence as I been seeing Broadway shows when I can since my childhood (when it was so much more affordable) and have seen some of the all-time greats like Barbara Streisand. Zero Mostel, Mary Martin, etc, etc.
Do try and catch Ms Boggess in this, or at least try to see her sometime in anything she does. She is a rare talent not to be missed.

Saw a matinee performance on Saturday with tickets purchased that morning at TKTS booth in Times Square. Show was incredible, Majestic Theatre beautiful. Bring a sweater as it was freezing inside. But great performance.

We had to see this play on Broadway, and we were amazed. The quality of actors and props and music was tops.
