“Park with lot of people”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Named after the Italian Explorer Christopher Columbus.
New york has lot of parks and the greenery is fantastic. This park is so full of life and saw many people, families, kids having gala time in the park. Many elderly people were playing some games and many people were relaxing. The greenery, the trees in the park makes us feel great eventhough the temperature is hot.
There is place for kids to play, benches for the people to sit and relax. When you are visiting Little Italy and China town, visit this park also.
I also saw many chinese elderly couple and lots of tourists in this park.

“Enclave”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

After my son finished his chess competition on Sunday afternoon, we went to Columbus Park. It is an enclave in two senses. First, most people there are ethnic Chinese. They tend to be old people who enjoy simple life. They sang in different Chinese dialects, played various musical instruments, chatted with one another, played poker and Chinese chess, practiced taichi, or just sat there. If you prefer to meditate, this is not your place. But if you want to enjoy others' enjoying themselves, this is a good site.

It is an enclave in that many play sports in a place surrounded by high buildings, including the city hall. By rural or suburban standard, the sport area is small. Given the exorbitant land price in Manhattan, it can be viewed as big. My son and I sat on a bench, watching a soccer game against the background of those impressive and stately buildings. The players were pretty skillful and hardworking. If you did not pay attention, a ball might come your way. A volleyball court and several basketball courts sit there side by side.

The contrast between old and young people on the one hand, between east and west on the other, is striking. What adds charm to this park is that there are many Chinese restaurants nearby. Some are high-end brand names, like “Old Restaurant,” while others are budget eateries, like "Delicious Beijing and Tianjin," which is across the street from the park. It will cost you little to enjoy tasty noodle and dumplings over there.

“Great people watching.........”

We enjoyed a sunny break in this China Town park. Plenty of seating and plenty of good people watching. Nice place to picnic or just hang out.

This area is where the movie Gangs of New York was based. martin Scorsese knows his New York. I lived across the street from him on Elizabeth Street in the 80s but didn't know it at the time.
