Great hotel with Jazz bar

Review of Refinery Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 10, 2016
As a first time visitor to New York I didn't know quite what to expect, but this hotel didn't disappoint. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and the the rooms are stylish and comfortable. The ground floor bar/ lounge isn't huge, but nice for the occasional drink with jazz music often playing. We had most of our evening meals in the restaurant Parker and Quinn which was very good. The Refinery Roof Top bar is always very busy and we did use it on a couple of occasions, but book ahead if you want a seated area outside. The view of the Empire State Building is great.
Our rooms had comfortable beds and were changed every day if you wanted. Overall an excellent hotel with character.

Nice hotel, very friend reception staff, can be noisey, and unfortunately doors slam very loud.
I found dining very expensive, having breakfast was 9.00 extra for delivery and gratuities ,
Music great in main floor bar, lovely male singer .

I am a fairly frequent traveller to NYC but this was a special 13th birthday treat for my son. And the Refinery certainly met all my expectations. Being a frequent traveller to the City I get to see the best hotels for work and the Refinery is hidden gem that I am happy I discovered! I put in a special request and they provided the most amazing card for my son with a lovely note and the mandatory cupcakes! The room was SPACIOUS especially for NYC. Great decor wonderful theme and high quality furnishings. The best thing? The service from the Staff especially at Front desk -always makes the difference no matter how grand or nice a hotel is. Would definitely recommend as so central to either uptown or downtown as in a great mid-town location with easy access to subways and the Port Authority bus terminal if you fancy a trip to New Jersey and the Outlets. Go to this place - you will not be disappointed!

Had a great stay - location is excellent, parking garage across the street. Rooms are very large, including 12ft ceilings. Bed/mattress was good also. Only two negative things - both minor. When the rooftop bar is busy, one of the three elevators is devoted to bar traffic, making the elevator wait times that much longer. Also, there is a happy hour, free beer and wine thing, which is great, but there isn't much space in the bar to accommodate this event. On the great side - the staff is fantastic.

Room tip: I was offered a room with a view of Empire State Building for a higher price ($50).

While centrally located to Times Square, shopping, trains you really wouldn't have to leave the hotel to have a great time! Hotel is clean, people are friendly. The lounge in the lobby has great live jazz and you feel you could reach out and touch the Empire State Building from the Rooftop Bar! Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Big Apple!
