It's not easy eating Mexican in NYC. The little dives are the best bet, but for a sit-down dinner, there's not a lot of choice...mediocre food or celebrity-chef-Mexican. Angejo is a nice exception to that rule. Good simple food, great flavors and a drinks menu that somebody worked hard to put together and even harder to execute. The guac was good and simple. The tacos -- fish, shortrib and chicken -- are delicious. Simple executions, lots of flavor and that feeling of wanting to do another round. Speaking of another round, their drinks are great. It's so hard to find a REAL Margarita, instead of some bar mix junk. The folks at Anejo make a real, homemade old school Margarita -- just delicious and a pleasure to enjoy. The front of the house staff could not be nicer nor more accommodating. The wait staff is great -- friendly, relaxed and attentive at just the right level. The sequencing of courses could use some work (they were packed inside and out) and was the only negative aspect of the evening. A really enjoyable restaurant.
