I was in New York for a couple of weeks and dying for some Mexican food when my friend, who lived here for about 2 years, suggested this place. Coming from Cali, we have a wide variety of different Mexican food offerings, but this place was close to El Grullense type food, with fresh picantes and salsas, and a variety of veggies on the wall stand to choose from (and as much as you want).
My friends had the carne asada tacos and I had a chicken torta which was very tasty and quickly made. We weren't disappointed, and the staff is quick to get your order, it really helps if you can order in Spanish.
Even taking the order by pencil and paper and paying at the end is what I am used to when ordering back home. Prices are pretty good too. You may have to stand at the wall counter to eat your food, but this is good since all you have to do is swing around to order more, if it is to your liking. People also order from the outside sidewalk window, as some businesses here in Spanish Harlem have this walk up feature.
