With a 5 minute walk to Grand Central Station, the Pod is well located with a variety of dining options close by. Nice view of the surrounding area. Smallish rooms but surprisingly quite from outside noise.

I had the great misfortune to stay at Pod 39 in October 2013 i had been told it was small but the only smaller place i had ever seen were the cells at Alcatraz hence the renaming of the so called hotel i endured one night in a bunk bedroom with no room at all for one person never mind for two people i had to pay to stay at another hotel at great expense to myself i would probably have had a panic attack if i had to stay for another night it is far too small without the usual furnishings of a hotel room like a wardrobe or even a cupboard to put ones things in the bathroom i avoided as much as possible as it was unlike anything i had ever seen anywhere i have ever travelled to i would never recommend this hotel to anyone at all it was my fourth time in nyc and my worst hotel experience so glad to be able to find a beautiful hotel suite for very little more money

Room Tip: Ensure you really check out the hotel you decide on not just the location as a good location does not ensure a good stay check rhe actual size of the rooms on offer

PROS

-Great Location: 2 blocks from Grand Central, Cafes and Restaurants, Amazing Deli (D'Agnostio?)round the corner.
-Close to Chrysler and Empire State which you can see from the rooftop bar
-Pretty close to Times Square too, $6 cab ride
-Awesome rooftop bar with breathtaking views BUT beware its owned by the restaurant Salvation Taco downstairs NOT the hotel so you HAVE to buy somthing (I wouldn't reccommend a $20 dbl vdka lemonade) but the cocktails were $13 each and there was a happy hour 7-9pm i think
-The bathroom was quite big and the shower was amazing.
-Super helpful and friendly staff

CONS

- i know its called the Pod hotel, but the rooms are TINY. We had two big(ish) cases as we were travlling around for 5 weeks and there was one measely space and 6 hangers on a rail.
- Costraphobic room, no privacy, horrible slightly frosted glass sliding door with gaps, in between the bathroom and the room which was a bout 2 feet away from the bed. You can hear everything and if you're on the top bunk you can fully see in.
-Barely any storage, could do with some mini shelves or some hooks somewhere. If you just had a carry on case you MIGHT be alright though.
- Next to no natural light- tiny shuttered windows.

OVERALL
- its tough because although the rooms weren't good, if you're out and about all the time it might not matter so much, but when packing/dressing/sleeping it wasn't comfortable, but the location is spot on!

When I was looking for hotels for my business trip, most 4 stars were around $375 or more per night. I booked Pod 39 upon getting a recommendation from a coworker, for less than $300/night for a double room. The great location just east of 5th Avenue, a quick walk to Times Square and the Theatre District was a major plus. My room was clean and perfectly sized for 1 person. Very smart layout and despite the sparse furnishings, it was very comfortable. The lobby and rooftop are also very cool, great spots to meet up with friends or coworkers. Would definitely stay here again for business.

We wanted to stay somewhere fairly central in Manhattan on a tight budget & Pod 39 was perfect for our needs. The rooms are capsule-sized with room for amenities & not much more; if you're looking for a sleep/shower/change base in NYC then you don't need much more than this. Double bed, small desk, small wardrobe, TV & in-room bathroom. Room was simply/tastefully decorated, shower worked well, the bed was comfortable & the hotel felt secure & was located in a safe, accessible neighbourhood (a short walk from Grand Central). The staff were friendly, there was Wi-Fi & the hotel were happy to look after our bags on our last day as we did a little more exploring. The roof-top bar was expensive but fun for a nightcap. We'd definitely stay here again on our next visit.
