“Value, location, clean”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

I have to agree on the comments posted earlier: our room was small that cannot be denied. We had bunk beds and moving around together around the bed area is impossible but if one is in the bathroom and the other then uses the space around the bed it works just fine. There was also only enough space to put one suitcase but we fixed that by using the little desk as suitcase storage for the 5 nights we stayed. The deskspace was vital since there are no shelves or wardrobes to unpack so you have to live out of a suitcase during your stay. Personally the latter did not bother me but just want to mention it. Since we literally only used the room to sleep and shower the size was not that important to us. The fact that it was super clean, the bathroom had a decent size (especially compared to the actual room), the staff very friendly and helpfull, the WIFI is included in the price (and worked very well when we stayed there) and the really good overall price of the room was more important to us. We were a bit hesitant for the neighbourhood but there was no need. It is close to the hustle and bustle but just far enough out to not have half of NY outside of the hotel during the time you want to sleep. We (2 girls) never felt unsafe at any time. Plenty of breakfast opportunities in the neighbourhood (I can recommend Zucker's (370 Lexington between 40th and 41st) .Dinner is a bit more tricky but not impossible. I can recommend this hotel and would stay here again but people need to decide for themselves if they can live with the rather small rooms or not. One tip: stay away from the bar / restaurant below. Overpriced food (the portions are ridiculously small and we are not into XL portions at all) but the worst are the bartenders (they all excelled in narcism but one guy in particular: Jeremy.) Cocky, selfabsorbed guys who cannot handle the amount of people in there and then work it out on the customer . To put it nicely they were just rude and this was the only time I was tempted to leave no tip. Yes the place is full every night but why is really beyond me. The food was good in flavour but that does not make up for the tiny portions and the attitude. 3 blocks away (3rd avenue between 37th and 34th ) you have plenty of good alternatives. I am not sure if the bar is somehow part of the hotel or not. If they are the manager of the bar should give his people the advice to take some lessons from the staff of the hotel on customer service.

Slightly Spartan, small, clean room, in good-repair, modern-minalmist, comfortable bed, free wi-fi, and in-rooom safe. Good location- a few blocks from Grand Central. What more could you ask for In Manhattan for under $100? Well done, Pod 39.

I stayed here for 6 nights with my SO the last week of March 2013, as everyone has pointed out the rooms are small.

The best thing about the hotel is the location, just a short walk from Grand Central, the hotel is clean and modern, the staff is really helpful.

Why I don't give 5 stars? Well, besides the size these are the cons that I found during my stay:

-The water pressure in the shower: I am sure it is not a NYC thing because when I have stayed at other hotels/hostals I can shower with enough water and in the Pod 39 the pressure is bad, at least on the 11th floor.

-The safety box: A pain..., really, EVERY day we needed to restart it, our code didn't work and then it wouldn't close

-Slow internet: I needed to check some stuff and the internet was incredibly slow

Besides those small things the hotel is great value, is clean, great location and I would stay again without hesitation.

I stayed at the pod 39 hotel for 3 nights..like everyone else had said..yes the rooms are very small..i stayed in a double room, but who cares about the room size..u only need a bed to lay your head at the end of the night..The rooms are exceptionally clean, but with no amenities except for a safe and very basic toiletries..The staff are very helpful especially Cristina from the concierge, who even let me use her personal computer to print some stuff..the hotel is a 5 minutes walk from grand central metro station and 10 minutes to the heart of times square..very safe neighborhood and very lively even at late night..If you are looking for an affordable, clean hotel to stay at while in New york then this should be on the top of your search list..i would definitely stay here again

Myself and 3 friends stayed in two bunk rooms for 5 nights in Feb 2013. For what we paid (£225 each) it was a very good stay. As everyone has pointed out the bunk rooms really are very tight for space. Two people can't move around the room at the same time but it's fine if one person is sitting in their bed while the other person gets ready. The bathrooms are good and the showers are decent. Hair dryer in all the rooms and lots of sockets for charging phones/laptops etc.

The biggest issue was the lack of storage space. If they put up more shelves and hooks ,etc then this wouldn't be so much of an issue. The ceilings are high so why they didn't utilise this more is beyond me - really poor design team! The bunks should be 1 foot higher so you can then use the large space under the bunks. There is plenty room for this and it would have made a massive difference.

There was no full length mirror in our room either despite there being plenty space on the back of the door for one - again just poor design which should be common sense and yet so simple. The other bunk room however did have a full length mirror.

The rooftop bar wasn't open when we were there but you could still go up there. Once it is warmer and this bar is open that will be a great spot for socialising and meeting other guests.

The bar and restaurant on the ground floor is great and always busy (mainly with locals - always a good sign). It's not cheap but hey it's NYC. Table tennis rooms are a nice quirky touch too.

Would definitely stay here again. Hopefully they make those little tweeks to make this place amazing.

I was there in August 2012 during my honeymoon in NY. I really liked the location. I liked the roof top...but I’ve been there only early in the morning...it's bar there i guess. the room itself was tiny but clean and comfy. And i really got confused with water- you have to turn the tap to get the cold water became hot. I will definitely choose Pod again. The was no window view(but we were there only to get some sleep)
