I wish the designer of this hotel would stay in one of the bunk rooms for a week. I did. Going to the bathroom is the main problem (if you're sharing the room), because the door is transparent glass and ours didn't close well—there was a 3 inches gap. With or without the gap, everything you do in there can be seen, heard and smelt by the other person in the room instantly because the room is SO TINY, is like the WC were next to the bed.

Believe it or not, the room is narrower than myself with my arms stretched. There's no place for suitcases, they must be on the floor. There's no closet, so you can't unpack. Every morning I sat (or kneeled down) on the carpet and looked inside the suitcase to find new clothes. If you shop anything, there's no place to put it or store it, so the room starts to get flooded with bags and suitcases, and there's no room even to walk! It's exactly like being in jail.

Body towels: I thought they were the hand towels, then I realized they were the body towels, they're really really small and thin. There's no place in the bathroom to put anything, only a 2-inch shelf that can't hold anything because it's so small! My toiletry bag was in the room, not in the bathroom, because there was no place to put it!

You have to be careful not to hit your head when you wake up, there are sharp metal fixtures by the bed. Bed is OK. I slept well, no noise. Everything seems new but a bit cheap. Lighting & color schemes are nice. WiFi does NOT work.

This hotel could be good only if you're traveling on your own and won't do any shopping. Do yourself a favor, pay a bit more and find another hotel. Oh, the terrace is great, you can go there even if you're not a guest. Just take the elevator in the lobby to the last floor and there it is.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, please make sure your room has a doble bed (not a bunk), so the room is a tad bigger.

It is clean as the hotel is new. But rooms try to be trendy, nut it has been done in order to save space, as the rooms are just really tiny. Ok for a single person, but for 2, the glass doors for the shower and toilets does not give a lot of intimacy.
Beds are too soft, I prefer harder ones.
Hotel is still under construction, so noisy in the lobby, dusty, and the outside building is still a mess.
I would say that for the price paid, I think you have better options.
17th floor bar as a good ambiance, lots of NYkers come, so can be a bit too crowded.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor. After 7th, as before, you are facing building, and can give a hand to your neighbors

Stayed in a bunk room with my tall adult son---who laughed @ the ever so small dorm like space. Staff friendly, roof top - great drinks and view. good location and the rooms are clean!!! And the showers are hot & efficient. I would use POD 39 again...I have stayed in some funky rooms for twice the price!

Room Tip: Single rooms seem more spacious than the bunk rooms.

Room was clean and new.
It was a bit small but enough to spend the night for sleeping.
It is close to the main attractions in NYC.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
They have free wi-fi and touch screens at the main lobby to use for internet browsing if needed.
Overall a pleasant stay =)

It was still under construction during my stay, hence the current "Grand opening" rate. It really is like a fancy dormitory. I actually ended up staying in both a double (bunk) and a single room. The layout of each room is quite different I believe. The double was small to the point of being a little claustrophobic. I don't really think it's reasonable for 2 people to stay in it, unless they are planning to stay out all night...which is very possible given the great location. Ventilation wasn't all that great either. The single that I moved to later felt nicer and had a larger layout. Of course, the price isn't too bad, and the location is great, close to Grand Central and to Murray Hill. Nice touches include access to a great rooftop view and A/V plugin for your computer (but need to bring the cables). The people talking outside in the hallways at 4 AM in the morning really reminded me of a college dormitory. Overall, I think it does a good job in providing what it intends to provide - clean, affordable, hip accommodation intended for younger folks wanting a good time in NYC.
