“Vive seniority”

As most of you will have figured out, there are two different shows at this same theater right now, a funny one (Old Jews Telling Jokes) and a serious play (My name is Asher Lev). This review deals with the funny one, and it truly was funny. There were several jokes that appeared originally on the podcast of the same name, but even the ones I had heard before (and some of the less-hilarious jokes) were enjoyable because the actors' delivery was superb (practice, practice, practice). Kudos to the reviewer who pointed out that this would not be a great show for kids, due to some jokes with a sexual bent, but I felt that they were delivered in a non-vulgar manner.

“A laugh a minute”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

For anyone who just wants to sit and be entertained by funny people, very funny people, I would recommend this. Very well done, a laugh a minute, the perfect dessert after a lovely meal up the street. Go see it and see.

“Provocative, engaging”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

"My Name is Asher Lev" challenges audience members to examine what they're willing to give up for something they love...when what they have to give up also is something precious. To make matters worse, the choices Asher Lev makes effect his parents and community as well. There is no intermission. This is a small, clean theater with no bad seats. It is up a flight of stairs on the second floor. We definitely will return to this space.

“Excellent productions in this off Broadway historic theater”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

This building started as a church in 1889 and eventually was renovated into a cozy space with two theaters, one of the first level and one on the second We saw a wonderful production of "My Name is Asher Lev" done with a cast of 3 marvelous actors, two of whom play multiple roles. Prices for a Wednesday eventing performance, which started at 7 PM, were a total of $30 each. The play ran 95 minutes with no intermisssion. A great, reasonable place to see very good theater. The theater is on 43rd Street, just west of 9th Ave.
