“History and country life in busy NYC”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

My wife and I were were walking from 2nd ave and stopped at this lovely place that stood out in busy NYC. It looked like a cottage from around the 18th century. I have seen it before and we decided to visit it. It is a museum and the entrance fee is what you would like to contribute. It has tremendous history of not just NYC but of colonial NYC. It is a cottage that has been maintained with all the insides with the furnishings. It is something that you would expect to see someplace very far remote. The grounds, a little small, is very lovely. You can sit and read and it is a little oasis. A break away from where you are. You are a couple of blocks away from the 59th St Bridge and the tramway to Roosevelt Island. The nice stretch of restaurants on 2nd Avenue. The stretch of parkway along the FDR Drive. We had a very lovely tour guide, a volunteer who goes to college in the city. No pressure tour and run.

“How to re-live history in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed June 24, 2009

Visting the Mount Vernon Hotel and Museum is like turning the pages of a history book and stepping in at the same time. It is a wonderful experience for both young and old. Be prepared for authentic architecture, historically profound artifacts and very knowledgeable docents that lead the way. The garden is a sight not to be missed.
A must see on your next visit to New York City. A hidden gem on the Eastside.
