“Intriguing chain property - good value and great staff”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

By most measures this hotel was average - neither conveniently located for my mid-town meetings nor having any outstanding amenities. Just another hotel offering a great rate because it was out of the way.

Located right beside the Brooklyn bridge, without much signage, the initial impression was not positive.

What a surprise! The staff was very welcoming and helpful. In particular I would like to call out Larry, who worked the front desk in the evenings throughout my stay. He went above and beyond - helping me with travel plans and recommending local places to eat. If the Hampton Inn has a concierge training program for its staff - Larry should be on the top of the list.

The room was larger than most Manhattan rooms and there was good lighting and more than enough electrical outlets conveniently located around the room. There was little else that recommended the property - which at first blush seemed located in among parking lots and industrial type apartment complexes and long term care facilities.

Well what a surprise. The location just took a little exploration. There was a great old district with cobbled streets that bordered on the East River. In just a five minute walk I had a wide variety of restaurants and take-out spots on Fulton street that were easy on the wallet. There were some little historic gems hidden in side streets which heralded from before the war of independence.

What initially seemed like an inconvenient and uninteresting location - turned out to be both interesting and economical.

One suggestion - please have a billing option for leaving tips. For those of us who travel frequently and do not carry cash - having a way to tip excellent staff would be greatly appreciated. This is available at other hotel chains and offers a way for appreciative travelers to reward great service.

Everything was perfect! Awesome view of East River, Brooklyn Bridge lit up at night and the skyline! Room was spotless and the breakfast was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Staff (Irene) was also top notch. From here it was a short walk to Wall Street, Staten Island Ferry (don't confuse the FREE ferry with the pay tours-ferry provides great view of city and Statue of Liberty but does not stop at the Statue), and World Trade Center site.

We stayed here the first weekend in February to attend an event at Pace University. The hotel is conveniently located near Pace as well as near the Fulton Street Subway station which can take you almost anywhere. There are restaurants and a nice grocery store nearby. With only about six rooms on each floor, the hotel is very quiet. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms are small (as is the norm for NYC) and very clean, I am certain we will return here many times. At about $125/night it is a great value for Manhattan.

We've stayed in Hampton Inns for the past several years due to their excellent service. But this staff was beyond great! Every question was answered promptly, cabs, restaurants, sites ~ everything was made easy. There was a problem with the first room in that a 4-month old baby was crying for a long period of time and we couldn't sleep. When we told the desk, they immediately moved us to a larger, quiet room on the same floor without hesitation...thank you!
We hadn't been to NY in 40 years and I didn't think I'd say I'm missing NY...but it's true, and one of the reasons is the friendly staff at this hotel. They were like family and made us feel like we were in our second home...thank you!( p.s. only suggestion would be to upgrade the quality of the hot foods and muffins for breakfast.)

Room Tip: Ask for a 'corner room'....they are larger with a lot of light. Ask for 6th or 7th floors...

This hotel stay were very knowledgeable and helpful. Located close to Pace University, Chinatown and Little Italy for shopping and great restaurants, but also near the Fulton Street seaport area and financial district. All within walking distance and very safe.

Room Tip: Room on North Side are quieter

Purpose of our stay was to be with our daughter in the NYC Downtown Hospital, which was not much more than 1 block away. We ended up being there for 6 nights, but the price and the location greatly reduced our logistic concerns. The close proximity to restaurants and essential drug stores (not all needed pharmacy items were available at the hospital) made it ideal. Daughter is now fine and we certainly would be more than happy to stay there again to enjoy the accommodations and the surrounding Seaport area and downtown.
