We gave our feet a break today and stopped at the Film Forum to see 39 Steps (part of their Hitchcock retrospective). Had a wonderful time, but had to sit in the first first rows to see over all the tall people!

Film Forum shows classic as well as current & foreign films on their 3 screens, & they often have double features. When I lived nearby in Greenwich Village I had a FF membership which provides a few bucks off each tkt. Now that I live further away & don't go to FF as often as b4, the membership wouldn't really pay, but I still luv the place & try to go as often as possible. Right now they're screening a Hitchcock retrospective. There's no other theater in NYC where you can see films like these, & their popcorn is gr8.

Recently took a (bus) TCM Classic Film Tour . (part of the On Location Tour company)
If you enjoy films from the last century to this one, this is the tour for you. Our guide, Sarah, was oh so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She showed little movie clips as we eased to locations from iconic films shot against the city that never sleeps. We were able to off load from the bus and took a more in depth view of the backdrops. If you loved, You've Got Mail, you'll have a bit of time to purchase olives, cheeses, etc. at Zabar's. (where Meg Ryan was in the cash only line).
Great for friends, couples, or solo.

Even though I live in CT, I frequently go into the city to Film Forum to see new foreign films and restored oldies. Film Forum, a non-profit, takes risks on great films that will have a sophisticated urban audience, including spiritual movies like Out Of Great Silence. It's easily reached via subway or bus as it's on West Houston Street - the border of the West Village and Soho. Some neat restaurants close by, they also sell delicious cookies, cakes, and other snacks to keep you going if you're doing a double-feature. You can reserve tickets online to pick up at the box office.

Sure, there are grander film emporiums in Manhattan, plush and concession-laden, but for film cognescenti, the path will almost always lead to this harbinger of the latest and sometimes obscure avant-garde film. Count on the powers that be to come up with must-see programs, making you fall in love with cinema all over again. Leave the multiplexes to the gum-snapping masses, find your way here to enjoy the day. Interesting offerings at their concession, mostly baked goods and stellar popcorn, and if not to your liking, tons of Village eateries and beer halls nearby.
Chill out here, forget your troubles- Film Forum will fuel your cinematic fantasies!
