We decided that the Harlem Gospel tour would be interesting, bought our tickets at the hotel concierge and thought we should be good to go. Went to the address on Sunday only to have to wait in a huge line with our ticket voucher to exchange that for actual tickets. Ridiculous! This process took so long that now our guide is telling us that our tour has to be shorter because we lost time. We were being driven around in a bus by a driver that did not know his way.....the guide was never really sure on the information he was giving us....possibly because he was always distracted by having to tell the driver where to turn, etc. The church we attended was very small, this was obviously a fund raiser for them, it was not even close to was I had expected. Sadly a waste of money and time. Perhaps check another company....maybe someone would provide a better tour.

So the trip involves getting a coach at Times Square - and the guide was great, pointing stuff out we'd not seen before. It did take quite a while to get there but when we did we had a blast. Were were all welcomed into the congregation - wowsers, the gospel singing was what we'd come for and we weren't disappointed. Everyone came out of that church smiling after an hour!

An excellent morning spent in the company of tour guide Sheila E who was very knowledgable. Learned a great deal about the history of Harlem. The ARC gospel choir were fabulous and while it is for tourists in the main it was still uplifting and good for the soul. An enjoyable distraction from the usual Manhattan sightseeing.

We did the Tuesday Brooklyn and Coney Island tours and we found it really interesting. It was good to see another side to New York City. The tour we did was bilingual (French and English) but once we got use to it the guide proved to be very knowledgeable and extremely enthusiastic about the area. It was fascinating going through the different enclaves, seeing the historic brownstones first hand and learning about the decline of Coney Island. Coney Island was a little sad. They have a nice beach and a beuatiful boardwalk, it just needs some revitalisation. Though as a tip don't go walking barefoot on Coney Beach as there was quite a bit of broken glass in the sand. Overall this tour was fascinating and one of the only ones that offer a trip to Coney Island. It is a little overpriced in my opinion but if you are looking for history and something a little different, do this tour.

The harlem gospel tour was well worth the money. We had an excellent tour guide who was very knowledgable. The church service we attended was very uplifting and we were pleased to have been able to be a part of it.
