I knew that this wouldn't be a great hotel: this price, in Manhattan, it couldn't be. However I didn't expect quite this.
The room was minute: barely room to walk by the side of the bed, and nowhere to store anything at all. Certainly there was no means of unpacking a case, and any more than one of them would have to be stored closed.
The worst thing however was the construction of the room itself: it wasn't really a room, but a cubicle. The walls didn't go right up to the ceiling, but at the top there was just a kind of grille. The result was that not only the sound from other rooms was very very loud and clear, but also if any rooms nearby had their light on late, that was visible as well.
It was very difficult to sleep, on account of the noise from other rooms, and the periodic very loud bursts of activity from the centralized air conditioning. Although the bed itself was surprisingly comfortable.
The bathroom was small, and as far as I could tell there was only one of them for two floors. It was not very clean, and tended to have water all over the floor most of the time. I wouldn't have braved it with bare feet.
Convenience was good, though, just one block from the Grand Street subway station, meaning that access to anywhere in New York was really easy.
But you need to be healthy, as there are a lot of stairs, and no elevator.
I wouldn't choose to stay there again, but if your budget is REALLY, REALLY tight, and you need to be central, then try it. But bring one of those dark eye masks and some very effective earplugs. And preferably very little luggage.

Never in life have i slept in a closet, with missing ceiling tiles and barely enough room to move. Until this place. Gonna take it for the team though. Im thinking i have a small single room, not a coffin with a door. Super dissapointed.

Negative
- dirty
- old inventory and sheets and towels with spots on.
- toilets when rooms w/o own bath really dirty, need slippers to use the bath.
- extremely small rooms! We had to keep suitcases on bed when getting dressed!!
- no windows and bed light
- tv with missing signal

Positive
- good placement, walking distance to sights like statue of liberty, World Trade center memorial and staten Island, chinatown and little italy plus easy to get to metro
- we saw no bugs!!

All in all: if you want to stay in Manhatten and don't have a big budget this hotel is good BUT consider a hostel as another option. The rooms are extremely small and not cosy at all. This is a terrible standard if comparing to a 1 star hotel (we have tried) in Europe.
