“Excellent location & good deal for the area”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Location
Excellent location in walking distance to public transportation, restaurants, movie theaters, convenience stores, bars. The area is gay friendly too.

Check-in
The posted check-in time is at 3pm and they were not able to accommodate an early check-in. They do offer lockers where you can pay to leave your luggage.

Upgrade
I am not sure why but they did give me a complimentary upgrade which was pretty cool. I paid for a shared room but was put in a single room. I never had problems accessing the shared shower or bathroom. Both facilities were clean.

Room & Linen
The room was very simple and did remind me of a dorm room/prison cell especially with the old blankets and yellow walls. There was a small sink in the room and they also had a shelving area to store your luggage. They provide an old blanket, bed sheets and a pillow (with a pillowcase). They did give me a towel which wrapped all the way around my waist so that was nice. No wash clothes or hand towels are provided. I also brought all my own toiletries including hand soap for the bathroom.

Bathroom & Shower
The bathroom and shower were tiny and in two separate rooms on the floor. Both were clean. There was no soap in the bathroom so you need to bring your own hand soap. They do have toilet paper which is a good thing.

Breakfast
They provide you with a "meal" ticket which you hand to a guy who gives you one bagel, one fruit and a small butter & small jelly packet. The food distribution did remind me of prison or a grade school type setting. They also offered coffee, juice, 2% milk and cereal. Again nothing to get excited about but the food was edible.

Internet
I was able to use the complimentary wi-fi in both the public area and in my room (since the room faced the courtyard common area.) I don't believe the wi-fi works in all the rooms but was lucky to have the service.

Price
You really can't complain for the price especially compared to other lodgings in New York City.

Recommendation
Nothing memorable or exciting but they did provide a safe clean place to sleep and some edible food. No complaints from me and would gladly return for another visit to the city.

Room Tip: If you are close to the courtyard you can access the wi-fi in your room.

My friend and I stayed at the Chelsea International during our 3-day spell in New York over Labor Day weekend. Although the hostel only offered the bare necessities, we didn't spend much time in our room and therefore it was more than enough for us. The beds were very comfy and the room surprisingly spacious for a hostel. You get a free bagel and a fruit every morning, which is an added bonus. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel was very much appreciated. The best thing overall, however, has to be the location - you cannot get better than this for such low prices! Would definitely revisit!

Stayed in this hostel this past weekend. LOVED IT. The staff is very nice and approachable. I stayed in a single room with a shared bathroom. The room was very clean, nothing special, but good for a hostel. The linens were clean and smelled fresh. Te bathrooms are very clean. Te best part about this hostel are location and ppl. It is very close to everything, landmarks, bars and restaurants. There are 2 subway stations only a couple of blocks away and the L train to Brooklyn is only 6 blocks away. And I ment some amazing people who made my trip so much better, since I travelled alone. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I will DEFINITELY stay here again next time I'm in NYC.

This hostel has very good location on Manhattan, it is so close to subway stop, to Time Square it takes about 15 minutes walk.
Rooms are typical for hostel - bunk beds, lockers, shared bathroom and showers, dayroom on the ground floor , plus there is also sitting in court behind the building.
During our stay rooms and bathrooms were clean, staff on reception was helpfull, you can also lock your laggage in basement
Definitelly recommend this hostel when you spend few days in NY.

it's near to the subway. love breakfast, specially because it is included in the room price. it's a very safe neighbourhood, near to a police station. There are lots of good average price restaurants. the staff are helpful always smiling. if you don't have a couples room you have to share a restroom with at least 6 people.love the thursday night, because it is pizza night (free)

Room Tip: cuoples rooms are larger and have a private bathroom

I nice and honest hostel, well located in Manhattan, in a quiet and very interesting neighborhood of Chelsea.
Good atmosphere, nice staff, helpful and smiling people.
The price quality relation was good enough...something to highlight is that breakfast was included in the room price.
adding location and the all experience I will rated with a C.

Room Tip: ensuite room, with private bath are nice

It is a nice hostel but the price is abit too high. My bed was a bit unstable and I felt like it was going to fall apart when I sat down on it. The location is good though, short distance to the subway and little convinience stores close by. But not sure if I will stay there again for the price I paid, it was almost double the price at an other place I stayed at this trip and the other place was a lot nicer.
