“Staying in during Hurricane Sandy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

I was very fortunate to be at this hotel during such a tough time with all the difficulties that the area had. All the great people working there made my stay enjoyable. I wish the power and water would have run normal in order to have access to the pool and gym, but I cannot complain when the entire downtown Manhattan was in the dark and the hotel generator needed to be used for more important purpose. I would definitely like to stay again there at better times.

Room Tip: Higher floors overseeing the reconstruction of World Trade Center Tower are fantastic.

This hotel is located at 'ground zero' in Manhattan and the rooms have tremendous views of the constructions and memorial. Rooms ae above avergae size for Manhattan. Overall the hotel is nice but not spectacular. Staff are not as attentive as I would expect from a supposed 4 Star hotel. Front desk staff did not answer the phone and appeared overworked on under-staffed. Concierge had an aloof attitude that didn't allow him to help the bell boys or anyone else. (For example, when my elderly mother in law dropped her bag she asked him if he could retrieve it for her. He went back to his desk and called a bell boy to come an pick up her bag - something which would have taken him 10 seconds to do). So bottom line - nice size rooms. Unbelievably expensive parking. Great loaction - close to subway and ground zero memorial.

Room Tip: Ask for view of ground zero. It was fun to watch the construction!

This hotel in the financial district was lovely. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the rooms very clean and quite spacious by New York standards. Having stayed in the Times Square area a couple of times we decided to try this area. While there is a lot of building work going on around it was a good location for exploring and we did a lot of walking as there are a lot of attractions close by and easy access to Brooklyn Bridge, China Town, Little Italy , Southsea Port, and 9/11 Memorial. The Subway is beside the hotel and we got the Airtrain from JFK to connect to the subway and straight to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if returning to NY.

Room Tip: Our room over looked the 9/11 site so really a building site so if you want a good view ask for the...

We stayed from 4 to 8 Oct in a Junior Suite on the 45th floor. Our room looked down on Ground Zero & across the river in 2 directions. The view was great & really made a difference to our visit

The area was busy because of Ground Zero but not as touristy as other parts of New York. The subway was right outside the hotel. We bought a metro pass & found it easy to get about. Taxis are also available right outside the hotel & places to shop & eat are in walkable distance.

We walked to SoHo & West Village several times & found those areas very pleasant & relaxing with lots of good restaurants, bars, shops & art galleries

The rooms were comfortable except that we asked for 2 beds but got one large bed & one small (& quite dirty) sofa bed. The bed was comfortable. The sofa bed was by the door which was noisy & also rather short so wouldn't suit anyone over 6ft. When we arrived we did point out we had asked for a double room but the check in girl was very robotic & kept telling us to check tomorrow so we just accepted our lot rather than waste our precious time chasing rooms. The staff on check out were much more helpful & gladly looked after our bags & a painting I'd bought on our last day for us

The room decor was a little tired but it was a good size & the bathroom was nice & large with a double sink & a reasonable hairdryer, a well lit magnifying mirror & double sinks. No robes or slippers though.

We didn't eat or drink anything in the hotel - there are so many other great places in New York why would you

The only real negative about the hotel was the terrible wifi connection. Almost unusable but we found wifi all over NY surprisingly bad

I would stay there again if the price was right

Room Tip: The corner suites have the best views

My Partner and I stayed at this hotel for a weeks holday in September and we occupied a Junior Suite.
The rooms were very clean, although some of the amenities were a little dated, for example the MP3 Player/Alarm Clock and some of the furniture could do with being replaced as some items had obvioulsy seen their time out.
The king size bed was wonderful.
The electrics need overhauling to allow easier access to sockets and also a greater number that work.
Housekeeping services were excellant and the maid kept our suite immaculate and well stocked with toiletries and towels.
As with most USA hotels, tea and coffee facilities in the suite could do with updating to provide greater choice and better quality.
The mini bar was seriously over-priced for what was on offer, especially in respect of water.
As with most UK hotels, I would expect now to have the facility of free wifi internet and not the $14.95 per day cost that we had to pay; free wifi should not impact upon hotel overall overheads and would be an added selling attraction.
Overall hotel staff were friendly and helpful, although the pool attendant was somewhat abrupt and obviously not interested in his job but the indoor swimming pool was great.
The hotel is in a great location for transportation Uptown and also nearby tourist attractions being situate in the Financial District adjacent to the WTC Memorial and easy walk to ferries, heliports and other attractions.
The hotel is very gay-friendly and indeed offers LGBT packages for rooms.

Room Tip: If you book a Junior Suite, ask for a high up fllor for spectacular views and picture opportunities.

Great views, modern decor, clean and comfy. One of my favorite hotels in Lower Manhattan! I've stayed here many time and I've never been disappointed. My reservation has always been accurate and check-in is hassle free. Great location with easy access to the subway!

Nice, efficient hotel with unparalleled views of the World Trade Center memorial and Freedom Tower. Check in was almost instantaneous, as was check out. The rooms are small, but laid out very efficiently, so they actually seem more spacious than they are. Not the most luxurious place to stay in lower Manhattan, but a perfectly acceptable mid-range alternative.
