“a gem of a hotel in the middle of everything”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

We were unsure as to what we would find having chosen an unknown hotel from the Internet for a reasonable price ( under $200/ night) and thus were thrilled to discover a newer hotel with all the amenities including a restaurant, parking (for an additional fee), a safe in the room, toiletries from Bath and Bodyworks, an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, fluffy duvets, extremely helpful and obliging staff and most importantly wonderfully clean rooms!! I initially wondered if the street noise might keep me awake at night but it was a non-issue- the neighbourhood is very quiet at night. The location on the border of Chinatown and Little Italy and close to subway stations make this hotel a fantastic place for the price! I can't recommend it highly enough!

It has a great view, was spotlessly clean and the décor was classy without being over the top. It had pleasant toiletries, plenty of power sockets and fast, free Wi-Fi. It’s in an interesting location in Chinatown, and close to Little Italy, which might be a bit out of the way for some, but suited us fine and we enjoyed the quirkiness of the area and the vibe in places like Orchard Street. Good access to the subway made it easy to get to tourist sites in Manhattan. Because of its location on Bowery the rooms can get a little noisy with emergency vehicle sirens, but expecting rural quiet in the heart of Manhattan is asking way too much.

The only glitch was an out of date room service menu in the guest folder, but a current menu from the hotel restaurant was quickly brought to the room and the breakfast that was ordered arrived promptly, but wasn’t very exciting. I’d suggest exploring many of the quirky cafes in the area for much better dining. The legendary Katz’s deli is only a 15 minute walk away.

The room’s balcony gave great views of Manhattan, but only the floor that I was on has rooms with balconies. Be warned that the balcony is shared with all of the other rooms on the same floor, so you can walk the length of the building, past other people’s rooms and see into them. And they can see into yours. Private people might need to keep the curtains closed, and you need to be sure to lock the balcony door after returning inside.

My daughter and I stayed here for 4-days and it was amazing. Got a great deal on Travelzoo. The hotel is in close proximity to just about everything without all the noise that you would get from Midtown. Subway station is just around the corner, in the heart of Chinatown and close to SOHO, Little Italy and more. We were just a subway ride away from Midtown and Chelsea and two to Central Park. Our room was very clean and modern with a view of the Empire State Building. Love the floor to ceiling windows. Bathrooms were spacious. The staff and conceirage were very helpful everytime we need directions or information. Would definitely recommend and we are definitely planning on staying there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1204...awesome view especially at night.

What a great hotel for really experiencing NYC! Away from the horrible congestion of midtown, the hotel is officially in Chinatown (fantastic food and shopping) and on the border of Little Italy (fantastic food and shopping!). Short walk to downtown, East Village, and Soho, convenient to subway. Clean, very European, helpful friendly staff. Rooftop bar has lovely view of midtown -- enjoyed watching the colors of the Empire State Bldg. change according to World Cup wins. Thoroughly enjoyable--great value and lodging!

Room Tip: Some noise on street side, but didn't bother my sleep.

Needing one extra night in NYC after three nights on the upper westside near Central Park, I booked a night at the Wyndham Garden Chinatown from a Travelzoo special. In theory, I liked the idea of it being in Chinatown, on the edge of Little Italy not far from the World Trade Center and harbor. In reality, it was perfect. We arrived four hours early for check-in but the front desk manager put us in a room right away. We walked into our hotel room (on the 10th floor) and our hearts opened up--the room had a city view that included the Empire State Building. Compact but very clean and modern with fridge, good tv, coffee maker, etc. Really comfortable bed. We dropped our luggage and took off. Walked and walked--every street was interesting and took us to amazing places. Souvenirs, interesting food stores and foot massages in Chinatown; amazing restaurants in Little Italy; the World Trade Center memorial and the new building were profound. We stopped for a delicious lunch at an Italian outdoor cafe on the esplanade over-looking the Statue of Liberty and spent a few hours in the Jewish Heritage Museum. Took a taxi back to the Wyndham and went up to the 18th floor for a drink. The bartender told us to go up one more floor and see the view. It was incredible. Next day, we walked through the old lower eastside to Greenwich Village and back to the hotel. I have been to New York several times but have never had this much fun or learned so much. I credit my adventurous husband who nudged me on but he was definitely inspired by the hotel and its location. I highly recommend the Wyndham Garden Chinatown and will put it at the top of my list for my next visit.

Our room had floor to ceiling windows and, at night, we could see the Empire State Building lit up in red, white and blue. The room was large by NYC standards and had a desk/chair plus a sofa. Wifi was free and worked consistently well (not always the case in other hotels). Staff was courteous and helpful and the room was immaculate. This was our first stay in the neighborhood (I grew up in NYC and we've stayed in many parts of the city), and I loved being near the restaurants of Chinatown and Little Italy...a couple of blocks from Ferrara's and Black Seed Bagels...how bad can that be? We used the valet parking which was not much different in price from garages nearby and made for much less schlepping. Subway was nearby and convenient for getting to sights further uptown, although we did take the car out one day to go to the New York Botanical Gardens.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor and, while we heard a few sirens during the night, it wasn't too disr...
