“Great Location Room and Price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

The hotel is all glass and has great views of UPTOWN. This is located in heart of China Town and we switched to a hotel Uptown after the 1st day and wish we had stayed at the Wyndam Garden Chinatown. Continental Breakfast is (FREE) included but full breakfast is available for around $10. Staff is obviously happy and wanting the hotel to be a success. Nearby NYC icons are the Pizza Casa cooking school, the foot heaven massage parlor (excellent), the new REI New York, Ground Zero. Il Mulinos (Italian) and Katz Deli and Canal street.

Room Tip: Get a room as high up as possible to enjoy the great views in every direction. It's one of the o...

Thank you for choosing the Wyndham Garden Hotel Chinatown. We appreciate your feedback. I sincerely apologize that we were unable to cancel the reservation. Booking a reservation through Expedia means that they are the ones charging your card, so if we were to cancel, they would still charge you. Your comments have been shared with our management and team. Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the near future.

We got a great price on a 3rd floor, corner King room that included a living area with a sofa. Room was spotless and spacious. As others have mentioned, the shower looks great, but water got everywhere, despite careful usage. Free wifi in the room and lobby was a huge plus. Front desk and housekeeping were friendly and helpful.

Location is great for walking through LES, East Village, and SoHo. The closest subway station is on Grand, but you can access other lines easily on Canal and Bowery. If you've already done the midtown-touristy stuff before, this location is a great (and affordable) base for seeing other parts of the city.

I stayed at the Wyndham Garden Chinatown in NYC for 3 nights starting February 7, 2013. Let me just start by saying that all the great reviews of this hotel are spot on. Check-in was quick and easy. The reception staff was very friendly and efficient. The hotel is very new and so shows little signs of wear and tear. It is located in Manhattan's Chinatown (but also very close to Little Italy) at the corner of Bowery and Hester. For me it was very enjoyable to be in an ethnic neighborhood like Chinatown because it emphasizes the melting pot that is New York City. The neighborhood is full of the sights, sounds and smells that characterize the Chinese community in this great metropolis. I felt safe coming and going at all times and am really glad I chose to stay here as opposed to Times Square or a more touristy part of the city.

The hotel is close to a couple subway lines (less than 10 min. walk) so getting anywhere in NYC should be no problem. That said, I was able to walk from the hotel to SOHO, the Village, and the financial district. So if you don't have problems walking and want to really take in Manhattan and its neighborhoods, the hotel's location won't present a problem. And, of course, the the subway is nearby for going further afield.

The hotel's physical characteristics put it squarely in a 4+-star category. It is a modern high-rise building of approximately 20 floors. I was fortunate enough to be given a standard room on the 16th floor with a view facing uptown. Although the room was not huge, it did not feel small because of the floor-to-ceiling window that comprised an entire wall of the room. (Even the bathroom had a small floor-to-ceiling window with a view!) I could look out the window toward the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings while lying on the bed. There was probably less than 3 feet of space between the foot of the bed and the window, but the spectacular view created a great effect, especially at night.

All the furnishings in the room were top notch and everything functioned perfectly. The furniture and bedding were done in a contemporary dark brown and beige. The bathroom was of a nice size, with a bathtub/shower combination and high-quality fixtures and toiletries. Water pressure and temperature were great.

My rate included a daily continental breakfast. This is not a breakfast buffet but rather it is something you order from the restaurant menu and is served at your table. I was given a voucher for each day that had a value of $10 and was enough to cover the cost of the continental breakfast selection, which consisted of a generous bowl of oatmeal, a small bowl of fruits, one slice of toast, and coffee or juice. It is possible to order additional items from the menu at an extra cost. I will mention that the staff at the Elevate restaurant, where breakfast is served, is extremely polite and courteous!

The hotel's public spaces are not very big. There is a small bar area and lobby area, as well as the Elevate restaurant, which is on the lower level. I must say, however, that the hotel very efficiently and tastefully makes use of the space it has, being intended more for the business traveler than for someone traveling with the family on vacation.

All in all I am very glad I chose the Wyndham Garden Chinatown and would not hesitate to stay there again. The special rate was very reasonable for NYC and the room and view were fantastic!

My husband and I stayed there during the Chinese New Year Festival weekend. Thanks to other reviewers we requested a corner room and were rewarded with a great view of the city on the 11th floor. The room was small, enough room for two people. We had a handicap room so the bathroom shower was exposed and the floor did get wet but I didn't mind too much. I think it'd be awkward to share the room with someone other than a spouse/significant other - the bathroom door is made of glass though frosted and sounds do come through. The service from hotel staff was great. I would not recommend getting the free breakfast downstairs. I had steelcut oatmeal and it tasted pretty gross. The service was also slow and lacking. There are so many yummy Chinese restaurants and even Doughnut Plant nearby where you can grab great, cheap food. Overall, it was great and affordable place to stay. Easy to get uptown and other neighborhoods within walking distance. I was happy with my stay there and would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor, corner room. If you don't want a handicap shower, be sure to ask for a non...
