Description: Our MenuEcuador’s cuisine is characterized by great diversity, which varies according to each geographic region. The three main gastronomic regions of Ecuador are: coastal, Andean and Amazonian. The menu we designed was based on dishes from these regions, which are specially prepared by our cooks with natural and fresh products.Tripe: Based on tripe, also known as booklet, stomach or belly beef / veal, tripe, or often, among other names is a popular dish in the Andean Highlands, also considered a national dish.Stewed Potatoes with Pork Skin:This dish was born over 100 years ago when several families from the neighborhood “Tres Tiendas” for economic reasons, decided to create this dish using a clay pot and the skin of the pig as the main ingredient. This dish has been in the Ecuadorian cuisine until now.Baked Pork:Another dish with clear Spanish influences typical of the markets from Ecuador. The whole pork is baked at high temperatures. To give it its unique flavor, the dish is cooked on a clay over.Cow Feet Soup:It is a soup flavored with peanuts and oregano, along with mote (a grain typical of the Andean countries) and its main ingredient, the cow’s leg. The mixture of components makes it simply delicious.Fried Trout:The Ecuadorian highlands with its rivers, streams and lakes offer a cold climate for the development of a trout river fish with high nutritional value.Bandera Especial:A combination of Coast and Sierra, their combination is Shrimp Ceviche and other meats such as Seco de Chivo and Guatitas.Green Plantain Ball Soup:Typical of the Ecuadorian coast, is a very comforting dish, aromatic broth. Soup with meatballs, green bananas and beef.

Went here with a friend for lunch. Difficult to find. On the south side of 47th Street very near 6th Avenue. There is a no-door entrance next to a jewelry store. Go up four flights to restaurant. Very basic decor; a hole in the wall - key to likely being good food. Be aware that menu is in Spanish and all but one counter person speaks Spanish - another key to likely being good food. I suspect the menu changes daily.

You order at the counter, and they'll call you when your food is ready. (They accept cards.) Good traffic flow of people coming and going, as well as eating in. I suspect given the restaurant's location and appearance, no tourist has ever gone here. A good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I had chicken breast which comes with rice, beans and a small salad. Exceptionally good! Chicken had a fantastic smoked/grilled flavor. There is hot sauce on the table. I didn't think it was that hot, so I used a lot of it.

I definitely will go here again.

I had to stop at the Brazilian consulate today and figured I'd find someplace cheap around for lunch. This place is basically across the street right on 47th St. There is a sign out front telling you to go up to the 4th floor. I was a little concerned when I looked up the staircase leading to the place. 2nd floor has some interesting jewelry dealers, 3rd floor is another restaurant, and finally the 4th floor you've made it. Ordered arroz con pollo to go, but there was plenty of seating available @ 3:00. The place seems a little "dingy", but the food was fabulous and the staff was very friendly. I've never had Ecuadorian food before so I have nothing to compare it too, but this was fabulous. Chicken was tender and rice was flavorful. The small salad was great as well. Overall the portion was very filling for $8...and you can't beat that price in the area.

We had the lunch special, which was about $6 for a very large serving and a drink. Food is good home cooking. I had the fabulous Arroz con Pollo (came with a small side of salad and a plantain), my daughter had a huge bowl of soup (came with a plate of rice and plantain), and my husband had calve's liver. All were delicous. The place is tiny, and filled up quickly around noon. It did a pretty good takeout and delivery business, too, while we sat there. Don't be intimidated by the walk up to the fourth floor, or the plain tables and dining area. No waitstaff - you order and pick up at the counter when your meal is ready. The people are friendly and the food delicious. Located in the Diamond District. Very convenient to everything midtown and very inexpensive for a delicious but no-frills meal in midtown.
