“Excellent stay (with a slight off putting incident)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

I am so glad Hyatt Place has finally come to NYC. This hotel just opened a few days before my March 18 arrival. The place was ready for guests! The rooms were spacious and tastefully done (we had a double double view) with wonderful beds and a great view. We slept well!
The check in was seamless and everyone was pleasant and professional.
The next morning we woke up at 8:30 and went downstairs for breakfast at 9:35. Oops, breakfast ends at 9:00. No problem, really. I should have checked (or maybe I was told and forgot).
The off putting incident came when I helped myself to a cup of coffee (the dispensers had not been removed) and a scowling odd little man in a suit came over and said "you must pay..no more free coffee." Er, ok. I asked what time the free coffee ended. He said 9:30. I shook my head and said "really"? He glared at me for a second then waved his hands and said, "ok, ok, just one cup."
There was another guest that heard the whole exchange and he shook his head and said to me, "whoa, that was not pleasant." Yeah.
So, I'll be back for sure but they really should consider breakfast till 10 (it is NYC after all) but even if they don't, at least tell the little guy in the suit to smile and be a bit more hospitable.

Whilst part of the reputed Hyatt chain, the friendly, personal service offered by the staff, (led by Devon Alexander, the Director of guest services) gives one the impression that it is a boutique hotel. Always smiling & happy to help, NOTHING is too much for the staff here.

The hotel is perfectly located to start sightseeing almost as soon as you leave the hotel doors. Which one can only do after filling up on the hearty hot & cold buffet breakfast - you really are set up for the day after this!
Being brand new, having opened its doors a few days ago, the whole place is spotless. Contemporary, chic rooms are spacious with a luxurious feel (huge bed & incredibly comfortable; 42 inch LCD tv, tea & coffee in room & a fridge - rather unusual for NYC). Free wifi throughout & computers in the foyer for all to use.
And then there's the view. Our room was on the 25th floor, at the back of the hotel - so we woke up to The Empire State Building right in front of us! At night, the whole City twinkles & you can see all the way down to Wall St.

Having visited NYC a few times before & stayed at the Waldorf Astoria & Marriott hotels, I would always come back here in the future. It may not have the grand foyer, but the rooms are beautiful & the staff really do go that extra mile to make your stay perfect. Being from London & having travelled around the world, I expect a first class service. That is certainly what you can expect here.
In fact, during our stay we decided that Devon Alexander never sleeps! She is ever present, leading her team by example.
This whole review may sound too good to be true, but this hotel really did make our stay. When you've found a little gem in the heart of New York, its only fair to share the details so that others may also have the happiest stay. We're both seasoned travellers, but the team here have seriously impressed us.

Why go anywhere else? We will certainly be back!
