Owner description: Once is the celebrated new musical based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. Brought to the stage by an award-winning team of visionary artists and featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians, once is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty... and unforgettable in every way.

The stage innovations, use of set, and having the musicians on stage are all unique and fun and are what saved the show for me at least. The story is basic romance with a less than happy ending, the music, which is supposed to be SO good, is just your run of the mill Broadway show tunes. The best music is before the show with the musicians treating you to some good Irish music - however, this is not any better than you can likely find at your own Irish pub gathering. I stayed awake, barely.

Cant recommend more highly.

Enormously talented cast and mesmorising from beginning to end.

Didnt know anything about it until we arrived in New York and simply booked tickets in a whim.

Simply wonderful.

The doors opened on Tuesday evening at 6:30 for a 7:00 showtime. Audience members are invited onto the stage before the show begins to purchase drinks from a bar which is part of the set. The performers come out a few minutes later, and play musical instruments while the audience gathers to listen.
The show itself is enjoyable, though I found the first half better than the second. The girl lead was fantastic and very funny, however, at this performance, the male lead who earned the Tony for his work, was not in the show. His understudy was very good, but we were disappointed not to see the Tony winner. The show runs 2.5 hours with the intermission. Well worth seeing.

I wondered how a musical would be able to pull in all the scenes from the movie, but it did a great job. Before the show that come out and play music and dance. the stage is a bar. It's so laid back and every seat is a good seat (small theater). I'd recommend this musical to everyone!

Go see this show! I'm really am a harsh critic when it comes to theatre and I loved this show! The music was great! I was totally moved by the first song the lead male actor sang. The lead female actress had perfect comic timing. The whole ensemble of actors were really good. Their energy just puts you in a good mood. It was a good balance of comedy and drama. I was crying at the end of the show. A well deserved standing ovation as well as all of the Tony awards the show received.
