Seems to be the Travel Zoo and Groupon Capital of Sixth Avenue. It's fun for a change. The infused vodkas (try the horseradish) are a great fiery prelude to the meal. No one will leave hungry -- big portions of classic (i.e., heavy) Russian cuisine. It's all tasty, in a I-remember-the-1950s kind of way. For me, the star of the show were the blini. Get yourself a discount. Their retail prices are ridiculous.

A friend of mine invited me to share a livingsocial voucher to Onegin. It included 9 flavor infused vodka shots and 6 wild salmon blinis. The vodka rocked. Although we didn't like all the flavors but it was very fun to try them out and it didn't hurt that it gave us a little buzz. As for the blinis, they were eh. The flavor wasn't too bad but I did feel that it was very mayonaisse-y. We ordered meat pierogies and the braised beef short ribs. The pierogie was quite tasty and the ribs were sooooooooooo tender. The service was on point -- they were very attentive to your needs. All in all, I enjoyed it and would go there again!!

Went to Onegin last night for dinner with our best friends, a couple from Chicago. They are originally from NYC, big foodies, no children, lots of restaurant experiences. They said this was the best meal of their one week visit to Manhattan.

My husband and I just returned from Italy, where needless to say, we ate extremely well. We were very impressed with the food at Onegin, Russian core, but draws on French, Italian, etc., dare we say Russian fusion? According to our waiter, the chef is African, has decades of experience with cuisines globally but with a strong history in Russian cuisine.

The service was attentive, professional and helpful. Our waiter was from Vladivostok. All recommendations were amazing. The vodka infused with horseradish was a surprisingly good match with the food flavors. Vodka infused with horseradish and beets even more so. Vodka infused with pear and ginger was great too. Nice to have 4 people to taste the many options.

For appetizers, the chicken liver and figs were lovely as well as the cabbage roll which was surprisingly light. No heavy Russian fare here. As for main courses, the short ribs with truffle barley risotto was top notch. My girlfriend whose death row (what do you eat if it's your last) meal is short ribs, proclaimed this the best she's had - very tender, good flavor. The barley risotto was an interesting jag, heavier than the Italian risotto we love, but surely appropriate for Russian nouvelle.

We had a Groupon which made the dinner very affordable but even without it, the prices were fair for the portions and quality.

The room is warm, ok a little kitsch but that's called for with a Russian theme. We liked the music (jazz, Latin, interesting mix), which was at a reasonable volume, not the ear piercing, conversation deterring level of the meat market restaurants. Hubby is an audio engineer, so this is not just a casual comment.

Overall a big hit, we'll be back. Recommend highly.

Very conveniently located, literally 1 min away from the subway. Delicious appetizers. I was a little disappointed with the quality of house infused vodka - tried horseradish one. I can make it better. Food was pretty decent, nothing to die for except for the fish soup. This was phenomenal. Otherwise nice but kitschy ambiance, really comfortable chairs and coaches. You can definitely spend several hours sitting there with friends. I've heard it gets crowded on weekends but we were on Wednesday and didn't have any problems. Overall recommended.

The food is delicious, the drinks were pretty darn good too ... so much so, we kept them coming, one after another ... and the ambiance -- is classic meets modern. Great atmosphere, and the staff is friendly ... as friendly as one can expect of Russian staff.
