“Perfect gay venue in nyc”

Location is great, 2 blocks only from Times Square and plenty subway lines. The shared rooms are very comfortable, very convenient and very clean. The jacuzzis and terraces are the perfect places to make friends. And XL club right next door really has very nice music and nice crowd!! Staff is very helpful. This hotel is just sooooo nice!!!

Room Tip: Just expect a bit of noise (street and/or club) in the shared rooms. So don't go to bed too earl...

Hi there Vincent G,

Our public spaces such as the complimentary jacuzzi access in our Spa Atrium truly make it a treat for our guests to have a social outlet without venturing far into the city!

Fantastic hotel in central New York, only 5 minutes walk from Times Square. The rooms are a good size with great facilities. There is a spa, restaurant and nightclub on site as well as some great communal outside spaces! Best hotel I have stayed in in New York

We would definitely recommend the Out! We made a last minute decision to stay there to celebrate our 20th anniversary by legally getting married in NY. We spent three nights. Bo and Kristen asked for our input and made the wedding come together exactly as planned...down to the finest of details. The staff honestly seemed as happy for us on our wedding day as we were!!! Bo was amazing in terms of anticipating our every need...and making all reservations for restaurants, etc. The food at their restaurant (KTCHN) was very good; and the bakery chef made a wedding cake to die for. Definitely a "high end" LGBT "straight friendly" resort. Most of the guests appeared to be gay males, with some lesbians including us. While there were some straight people, we definitely felt we were in an LGBT environment. Location is great!

Room Tip: If you want to avoid noise be sure to ask for a room away from the nightclub (which we had)!

Great accomidations. From the staff to the rooms and all of the amenities. The outside area feels like you are in Florida. The gym is very equiped and the steam room and suana are very clean. It is a gay friendly hotel so our straight friends do stay here boys so don't walk around in the nude. It's not a bath house it is an up scale hotel. It's home away from home.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a room that is over the club. You hear and feel the music until 4am.

I would certainly recommend the out for a quick fun visit to NYC.

Service is slick, professional and friendly and the room was well maintained and modern. (Amazing shower!)

Just remember there is a nightclub next to/underneath the hotel. If you want a quiet night in your room. This is not the place for you.

The Out NYC bills itself NYC's first "straight-friendly urban resort," a clever way of trying to position itself for the gay traveller without turning anyone else away. Also note that the word "hotel" is missing. The Out is an anomaly in New York City: it's essentially a MOTEL, 3 stories, with outside walkways, several wings that enclose courtyards. Not "New York" at all! It's more like what you'd find in 1950's Miami or Ft Lauderdale, absent the swimming pool and parking lot. Honestly, it's a pig with a lot of lipstick, waiting to be slaughtered for the next 50-story tower. But the lipstick is well executed.

For the gay traveller (which I am): I didn't perceive the Out as any more or less gay than any other boutique hotel in NYC. Most of the other guests were straight, including European families with children who, from what I could determine, weren't the slightest bit aware of the ostensible gay theme. That didn't bring me down--but if you want truly gay, keep looking. The Out isn't it.

Beyond that: Room was clean and stylish, fairly large by NY standards. Service was prompt and friendly. There was some noise from nighttime social use of the courtyard, but I wasn't bothered. (We overlooked the "bamboo court"; supposedly the "main court" is more popular and noisier.)

I took advantage of the modest "urban resort" offerings, available to guests at no extra charge, which are two hot tubs (one was cool, presumably because it was summer), a steam room, and a sauna. After walking your tush off in NYC, which you will do, a hot tub is a fantastic amenity, trust me! All were super-clean, as was the adjacent fitness center.

The location, far west 42nd Street, is a couple of looooong crosstown blocks from the action, but one couldn't begin to say it's remote. There is an excellent, classic NY deli immediately across the street, a real boon for a cheap, quick breakfast. We had dinner one evening at the Out's restaurant, KTCHN, and thought it was excellent also. We didn't try the nightclub, XL, but based on the people in line behind the velvet rope, it isn't any gayer than the hotel.

The one thing that I question is the open-air corridors and exterior room entrances. It was a bit unpleasant during our stay because of the summer heat and humidity. But I would have to think it's a lot worse in a Manhattan winter. Yes, there's the hot tub, but you must go outside to get to it!

Lastly, I would note that the rates are a good notch lower than most NYC hotels, especially boutique design hotels. Hard to say no to that.

Room Tip: "Main Court" is noisier than the other 2 courts.

Stayed here for 4 nights about a month after official opening. We were visiting NYC for a wedding up town. Given its central location the Out NYC was a perfect base! Originally we chose the Out NYC because of the discounted rate that was available for early bookers (before hotel was opened). NYC hotel prices are expensive so this was a perfect choice; a new hotel with all mod coms and central location.
Staff were really friendly and tried to help out as much as they could. As they were all fairly new to their roles, it took some time to get things sorted, nevertheless they did this with a smile!
The rooms still smelt of paint, so all was very new and very clean. As it says on the website the rooms are placed around various courtyards and are a-typical for NYC, quite nice if you ask me. One of the courtyards has 2 Jacuzzi’s which were a nice touch after a long flight. The staff were having a cocktail party there one evening, and without hesitation, invited us to join for a free glass or two, quite a nice service! We even got free entry to the club located in the hotel (normal evenings retail at about $20 as this seems to be a trendy place). Despite having nice beds with great mattresses, quality linen, etc... we had difficulties sleeping. This was down to the rather noisy club downstairs which keeps pumping music till the early hours almost every day! If you stay here, ask a room as far away from the club as possible or use ear plugs (available in the room). If you are a party animal, this hotel is perfect for you! Personally, we would only stay here again should we find a great rate, as I think there are better hotels in this part of town that offer similar services but are a bit quieter at night.

Room Tip: If you need a cab/car to one of the airports, ask concierge, their rates were the cheapest deals tha...
