As you wash down a hearty bite of Carbonnade Flamande with a dark Belgian beer, like Chimay Blue, dip the last piece of frites de pommes in a special Belgian sauce or indulge in a Brussels-style waffle topped with warm Belgian chocolate and homemade whipped cream, you will be captivated by the passionate and innovative chef Armand Vanderstigchel as you bask in the warmth of Brabant’s charming interior and endearing service.

The draft beers are all excellent and there is a wide choice of bottled beer as well. (Each brand of bottled beer has its own glass). The food was exceptional. A simple letter salad with blue cheese dressing was actually a mini head of lettuce cut into quarters. Escargot come, not in the shell, but in a mini puff pastry crust. The special as a mixed seafood "English fish and chips" style - all of the seafood was absolutely fresh and delicious. Higly recommended!

Brabant has a very good prix fixe brunch. For under $17 we had two entrees, drinks, and a basket of baked goods. If you would like a drink with brunch however, go after 12pm.

Moules frites & beer--heavenly. And excellent in this comfy and European-feeling bistro.
There is also a fixed-price lunch that is interesting and reasonable for Midtown. Must return
to sample the dinner menu.

Stopped in for lunch with a colleague at noon and we were one of only two tables in this Belgian-style pub setting. Had a good selection of beers, but just wasn't in a beer mood. Opted for scallops that were seared and served around a mound of mashed parnips with thinly sliced and fried onions and mushrooms. The scallops stood is a lemon wine sauce with capers. The dish was beautiful and certainly tasty. If I were making this, I would have preferred a little more crisp edge on the scallops. Also, the mashed parsnips were a little to sweet for the dish, and I would have perhaps opted for mashed potatoes with other vegetables mashed in (as they do in Brussels). All in all, it was a quality dish. I would try this restaurant again.

Brussels is full of great restaurants. Brabant, regretably, does not measure up. The service is fine and they make a strong effort to be welcoming. There's also a fine selection of Belgian beers. But the food was mediocre at best and way overpriced for what it was--fatty bits of duck smothered in a corn starchy sauce, frites that were pedestrian at best, a very doughy chocolate fondant drizzled with a chocolate sauce that felt like it came out of a bottle (so much for fine Belgian chocolate!) This could be a showcase New York Belgian brasserie. Unfortunately, this restaurant needs someone to overhaul its game.
