Someone at the hotel recommended Luigi's, a few blocks away, so we gave it a try. What a find. The place is a small hole in the wall and you could walk by it on the street (the main picture on this listing is NOT the same restaurant, but the picture of the menu is the same place). We walked into a small, cramped space and the guys working the counter were not ready for indecisive patrons. Lots of choices so it took us a while to place our order. Place was filled with locals inc police and construction guys, so we should have read that as a good sign.
Finally snagged the one table in the back and were wondering what we had gotten ourselves into when the food arrived.... Wow! Huge plate of grilled veggies and the best sauteed mushrooms any of us had in a long time. The grilled chicken panini I had was delicious and filled with fresh mozzerella and roasted red peppers. It was a huge sandwich and came with a salad for $8.50. Pizza was very tasty and only $2.75 a slice. We also had stuffed shells and a salad.
So good and so reasonably priced that we went back for dinner. We debated that it was crazy not to try someplace new with all of the offerings available, but we just couldn't pass up the quality with the price. They do have a minimum purchase amount for credit cards, so if you are just coming in for just a couple slices of pizza, bring cash.
