We went Tremont on New Year's Eve whilst visiting from the UK. Although the menu was limited the food was great and the service was excellent (very attentitive and polite). The restaurant itself it stylish, orderly and well lit. Give the high quality food and service, the pricing was very reasonable if not plainly inexpensive.

Very disappointed by the customer service at this resteraunt....and we didn't event get the opportunity to eat there! After a busy day of shopping and sightseeing we wanted a late dinner on Sunday evening. Knowing that people typically eat a bit earlier in USA we called in advance (at around 9.10pm) to check if they were still serving dinner and if we coud have a tabe at 9.30pm. We were advised that they had tables but that the kitchen would be closing at 10pm but that we could eat if we arrived prior to that.

We rushed down to the resteraunt, arriving around 9.25pm to be greater by the woman my husband had spoken to. We asked for a table for dinner only to be directed to sit at the bar. When we requested on of the tables away from the bar we were then advised that she "thought" that the kitchen was closing. We asked her to confirm this, and reminded her that we had been told differently on the phone. She returned to confirm that the kitchen was closing at 9.30pm because it is so quiet. Very poor service!

But every cloud has a silver lining! On leaving thus resteraunt we walked down the road and asked some New Yorkers for an alternative recommendation. We ended up in a local Italian restaurant which was fantastic (interestingly it was heaving, perhaps there was a reason why Tremont was so quiet). When I get the details of the Italian I will post a review of it too.

It is with great delight to review TREMONT. If the success of any great restaurant starts with the Owner, then Billy is who maintains the 5 Stars!!! I first popped in there in December with Family and the tone was set immediately. Warm greeting from Billy himself and the rest of the evening was memorable and set a new standard. I have now been back there dozens of times with friends and for business and each experience exceeds what is expected of an exceptional evening of superior food, excellent service and a terrific bar, too! Special kudos to Billy, Madison, Seth and Nikola. Bravo all around! Enjoy! (Oh, and TREMONT won the 2012 James Beard award most recently! See?, they are on to something!)

We had a very nice time at Tremont. It's one of those spots where you feel comfortable to enjoy the company you are with and the food is pretty good as well. We had:
Braised Octopus - nice portion, very tasty
scallop appetizer special - raw scallop - really not anything special
Burger - i think we all agreed that this was the best thing on the menu
Pappardelle - pretty good - nothing out of this world
gnocchi - very tasty
Pork Shoulder - also very good
I guess they tend to do better with the meats than with their seafood - but all in all, good food, good service and good times. You can't go wrong with that!

Although this restaurant came up a semifinalist in the James Beard Foundation new restaurants award category, it is a fantastic place that wins in all categories that are important: interesting menu using unusual greens to complement main ingredients, fresh items with understated presentation and delicious combinations, great waitstaff, good bar. Don't miss the chance to try some of the "small plates": the mac & cheese is sublime, the braised octopus melts in the mouth, the pork belly & spring radish is delightful. Entrees were all enjoyed by my party of 6: pan seared sea scallops were tender and tasty, the homemade gnocchi (served with lobster/crab that night) are delicate and light and the glazed pork shoulder is tender and flavorful. We were so full we couldn't fit dessert but the waiter heard us exclaiming over the sound of the chocolate-malted item and brought us a piece any way, as malted ranks high on my scale of best items ever. The dessert was heavenly. Small place so get a reservation--lovely venue is bright and light filled. A great find if you love food and a light atmosphere.
