“Perfect location, great service....brand-spankin' new rooms!!”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

Approx 4 blocks from the Javitz Centre....this hotel is a perfect location for business travellers who are attending trade shows. Our room had two queen beds (very comfortable...with great bedding) The bathroom was well appointed with an excellent shower. Modern and clean. The Tryp is small and very inviting. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and appreciated. The bar is friendly, open and busy. The restaurant is un-pretentious...we didn't eat there, but the food smelled amazing. Its a fun and interesting walk up to Time Square. We felt safe at all times of the day and night. Try it...you'll like it!!

Room Tip: There were two 'family rooms' next to ours (we were in 209 ) The maid allowed us to check...

We are frequent travellers to NYC. And many hotels in NYC look a lot better on the photo's and the staff is most of the times not very interested in there guests.

But the brandnew Tryp hotel had a very friendly and helpfull staff. The rooms are spacious and clean and we like the walkin shower. The hotel is located near the subway. And free wifi!

The only thing, we maybe can complain about, are the soft pillows, so maybe a pillow menu would be nice.

Excelent choice!

We booked the TRYP Times Square South via Travel Zoo and overall were not disappointed. The rate we paid was $149 a night before taxes. It's almost impossible to find that rate for a hotel in NYC that you'd want to sleep in. Don't know what the usual rate is, but this was a bargain.
The most outstanding feature of this boutique-type hotel is the staff. The front desk, the waiters, housekeepers, doormen, to a person were helpful, cheerful, welcoming, and kind.
The lobby is vibrant, with a friendly bar and dining area. The elevators are fast and we never had to wait. (Don't know if that's because the hotel had been open only a couple weeks and therefore may not have been at capacity.)
Our room held a king sized bed with fabulously comfy pillows, a large flat screen tv, spacious desk, and pretty bathroom with a good shower, but alas no bathtub. (This isn't a deal breaker, but when we travel, we like to have baths at the end of the day.) There is no minibar in the room so if you bring in your own snacks, get something that doesn't require refrigeration. There's no ice bucket either and from what I could tell, no ice makers anywhere. And there is no room service.
The one major flaw is the noise. The rooms have hardwood floors, which may be a nice design feature, but they are noisy. The walls, too, are thin. We could hear conversations, TVs, footfalls, doors opening, closing, all around us and above us at all hours. Some people were unnecessarily loud, but others were just going about their routines.
If we got that rate again we would stay here. It's a clean, cheerful, comfortable place to stay. But for any more money, we'd want a few more amenities and a quiet night's sleep.

Room Tip: I'd ask for the top floor so that there's no one walking on the ceiling above you.

Booked this hotel at last minute, at very favorable price (esp. for NYC), and I'm really enjoyed my stay here. Location is very convenient: 8 av & 35th st, 1 minute walk to 35th St. / Penn st. subway station, allowing easy access to JFK in either direction (A and E trains). Other key factors: walking distance to midtown attractions, nightlife, shopping; easy access to downtown business district (by taxi or subway).
Hotel is brand new, so everything is in perfect condition: lobby, reception, halls, and rooms. Every room has a coffee / tee machine (capsules), deck, personal heater / cooler, iPod dock /radio alarm clock, large flat TV and LOTS of power sockets. By saying "lots" i mean LOTS - seven (!!) double wall-mounted sockets + one in the bathroom, one double extension built in the deck, and one socket in the lamp base. Some of them used by equipment (phone, radio, lamp, coffee maker), but still you have enough to power everything.
Bathroom is small, but cozy, with shower cabin (some rooms has bath), and they use movement detector to switch on the lights (you can use normal switch too, of course) - very smart decision.
Negative moments - noise (I had connecting room, so I could hear everything my neighbors were talking about), earplugs are highly recommended. Apart of the noise, I can pint to some small things - no reading lights by the bed (only ceiling-mounted lamp), and no glasses at the bathroom (they do provide paper cups w/covers for coffee machine), making it difficult to organize toothbrushes, razors etc.
Breakfast is rich, but missing any fresh veggies and greens, however, I've never stayed in a hotel with full breakfast in the USA, so can't compare, probably, it's ok. Don't know if they make eggs to order, have to ask.
Overall: definitely, five star rating! Would stay again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Avoid connecting rooms (e.g. 605-606), though they are separated by double door, noise isolation is...

At first glance, the Tryp Hotel is immediately inviting. It's colorful, welcoming interior, viewable from the street, offers a golden respite from the hustle and bustle of New York City. The look is modern, fashionable, and modest. Having just dropped in from out of town, I was in dire need of a leisurely meal. I recommend one of the homemade "green" Martinis, a couple orders of the shrimp shooters - the shrimp sauce is perhaps one of the most succulent liquids to ever slide down my gullet - and get yourself an entree - they're all hearty and good. The rooms are cozy, colorful and evoke a Mediterranean feel. You feel like you're in your own private pocket of New York City. It's just a shame we had to leave.
