“Best Tapas”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Some reviewers have said this restaurant is noisy but the night we were there it was very quiet, beautifully decorated, with excellent service. We tried quite a few tapas and all were excellent. Octopus, squid, sardines, asparagus, serrano ham, manchego cheese, even the espresso was special. My only complaint would be that the menu said "whole squid" and the presentation was only the squid bodies, no tentacles. Other than that, all was as promised and very good. I would definitely return.

“Best Spanish Tapas in NYC”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

If you are looking for delicious authentic Spanish tapas, El Porron is the place to go. Besides the great food, the wine selection is excellent, especially the Albarino. The service is wonderful and the owner, Mr. G makes everyone feel like family. One last tip - try drinking some wine from the Porron. It's a fun experience.

“Tasty local restaurant”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

This is a really nice Spanish restaurant on 1st Avenue near 61st Street, where all the staff seem to be Spanish apart from one young lady at the bar from Cork! They do a nice mix of tapas and entrees which you can combine as you wish, and all are really tasty. On our 2 visits we had garlic shrimps, salmon fillet, veal meatballs, cream of asparagus, tilapia, all excellent. Service pleasant and attentive (except for one waiter who just plonked the food down in front of us, but he was the exception) and prices reasonable. Possibly the best place within walking distance of the Hotel Bentley, which is pretty much the only hotel around here.

“A Spanish "Find" on the Upper East Side”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

It's always fun to discover a find in your local neighborhood! El Porron is one of them. It's a Basque-owned restaurant so that the tapas are really unique and uniquely delicious. For four people, we ordered 6 different tapas and one Paella Valenciana, plus white sangria. Everything was great, though my favorites were the "setas" or mushrooms. Also terrific were the croquetas and chorizo. The paella was perfect.

So if you want to pretend you are in the Basque Country one night, just slip into El Porron.
