It’s perfect. Quiet. No crazy nightlife scene. Off the beaten track but still close to things. The staff is terrific. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Nice wine hour and breakfast. I’ll be back. Wish they didn’t have a two night minimum.

Wonderful hotel, very tasty breakfast (especially for vegetarians: bagels, cream, fresh fruits, porridge etc.), efficient, helpful and very friendly staff, room had very comfortable bed, big bathroom, cosy atmosphere in breakfast room with books and newspapers, cool rooftop bar - amazing both inside and outside, excellent restaurant!
We loved the special extras: bottle of wine in room, books as present at check-in.
Walking distance to Public Library, Grand Central Terminal, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Times Square.
Highly recommendable hotel!

If I could afford it I would live here. I've stayed in two different sized rooms and while the smallest had what's needed it was somewhat tricky to navigate around doors. The Queen room however, was perfect, a little entry removed logistics problems, the bathroom was a good size, with robe and slippers, the bed comfy. Only a small TV however, in this age of giant screens, but perfect for a hotel that prides itself on books. And there are plenty to choose from, not to mention one block from NYs huge public library on 5th. If you don't read you will not feel the full ambiance. Best of all, if not a huge eater you can do nicely on their excellent morning spread and wine and cheese early evening. Tables to read the NYT while hefty snacking. Since I was on working vacation that convenience was wonderful, and 24 hr coffee, tea, fruit and cookies. So if wake before breakfast can at least drown in coffee. As the title says, if I win the lottery I'm moving in. Not least, the staff is excellent.

Room tip: The smaller rooms are tight but if can afford to upgrade worth it. Otherwise, quiet, with views of street.

Hotel was perfect for a quick business trip. Check in process was fast and easy. Front desk provided restaurant suggestion and called ahead for me to make sure I could get in. Bkfst was great! Do over.

Room tip: Perfect size room. Just enough for a business trip. Couples any want a little more space.

Just back from a 6 night stay at the Library and I had a great time indeed. We booked the hotel last years so breakfast and the wine evening was included. We had breakfast every morning and it was excellent as was the wine and cheese. All the staff were very helpful.

The roof terrace is amazing though we didn’t try the bar.

We stayed in a deluxe room on the 9th floor which was a decent size and the bed was comfortable but small, only a UK double. The room was very dark due to a small window, so the lights needed to be on all the time. The wardrobe was very small indeed for two people staying 6 nights and you can hear the street noise constantly as the double glazing was either non-existent or old. I have stayed in Manhattan many times before and have not had an issue anywhere else.

The whole experience was great but I think there are better value rooms to be had in Manhattan
