“Stylish Sleek and Geeky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

The New York Times was right in describing the lovely Library hotel as stylish, sleek and geeky. We loved the book theme. We're a family of five that had two interconnecting rooms and stayed 8 nights. The rooms are modern and stylish. The standard rooms are small however the suite sized rooms are large and look out to the New York Public Library. The rate includes breakfast, all day coffee and pastries, an amazing cheese and wine couple of hours in the evening and hot chocolate and biscuits for supper. This all occurs in a very stylish reading room and you're encouraged to linger. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is fabulous next to Grand Central Station. Any part of New York is a quick train ride away. The hotel is central to many landmarks including Broadway and Times Square and next to the beautiful Bryant park. We also walked to many amazing restaurants and would recommend the Bryant Park Grill and Placido Domingo's restaurant Pampano. We had a fabulous time and look forward to staying again at this stylish, friendly boutique hotel.

Room Tip: The corner rooms looking out towards the New York Public Library have a great outlook and are larger...

We have just returned from a wonderful 5 nights in Manhattan. After much research we decided from the many great reviews to stay at The Library and were not disappointed.

The location is fantastic - just around the corner from Grand Central station so access to the subway is easy. Transfer from Newark Airport could hardly be easier. We just hopped on the Manhattan Express bus which drops off at Grand Central, about a 5 minutes walk to the hotel. Times Square, Empire State and the main shops on 5th Avenue are all within 15 minute walk.

We decided to stay in the deluxe room and it was genuinely as pictured on the library website. The bed was very comfortable, linen a good quality and everything was exceptionally clean with a great turn down service. The room was a good size for a short stay and some of the small touches like next day weather forecasts and a chocolate left in your room each night was lovely. We were on the 7th floor so there was some low level street noise but this was not enough to disturb. The hotel have added some nice touches such as the 2nd floor reading room which is available all day to use with tea/coffee and snacks available, At 5pm they put on cheese and wine so you can return from your busy day and have an hour to relax with a glass of wine! The breakfast served each morning is continental and has a good choice of cereal, fruit, bagels and croissants. Again all these areas are spotless clean and the ladies who serve the breakfast are helpful and couldn't do enough to help. In fact, we found all the hotel staff throughout to be really helpful and kind. From the time we enquired about our reservation via email, the service and attention to detail has been exceptional. We mentioned to the reservations manager that it was our 40th birthdays, hence the special trip, and they put a card and bottle of sparkling wine in our room as a welcome gift. The check in and out was easy and quick and all staff will help with info and reservations.

We want to particularly mention one of the concierge's (sadly can't recall his name but think that it was Billy) who helped us to obtain tickets for the Mets baseball and went out of his way to help. He was a big Mets fan himself told us how to get there, where to eat and booked us great seats by taking time to call the club himself. He was interested in our trip and even made an effort the next day to see how we had gone on. It's not often you get service like this!!.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel and if we every return to the city wouldn't look any further than the Library.

Just came back from New York and stayed at the Library for 4 nights, and I loooooved my stay. Staff was friendly, eager to help and make your stay agreeable. Book theme attracted me. Hotel do their best to give your chosen theme if you requested it, when booking. Stayed on 11th floor in room 1104, psychology. Was in front of elevators, if you are a light sleeper, take room away from elevator and in the back but I didn't have problem. Walls not too well isolated, could hear some noisy neighbors (but their performance did not last long lol so it was ok.) Room is not big but modern, very clean and well kept. Theme book was everywhere: pillows, chocolate with quotations. You can borrow also dvds: great selection at the reception (AFI 100 best movies). Arriving very early, my room was not ready yet, but I could leave my luggag securely at the hotel and had access to breakfast. Same after checking out on my last day, left my luggage and had also access to lounge room with coffee, wine, cheese, wifi etc Which I appreciated a lot. As a solo f. traveler, I felt very safe there even at night. Close to Grand Central station which has a shuttle to Time square which was perfect for me who went to see Broadway shows every night. Stayed at the sister hotel Casablanca in time Square 2 years ago. Service as friendly, same formula: breakfast included, 5 to 8 wine, cheese and crackers. Loved both hotels. Library is a bit more chic with its bar and terrace on 14th floor and decor. May be a bit quieter here since Casablanca is right in Time square closer to the theater district. I would recommend both, depends on what you like best. Would return at The Library for sure!

Room Tip: Stayed on 11th floor in room 1104, psychology. Was in front of elevators, if you are a light sleepe...

I stayed for 6 nights in April. My room was small but perfectly formed - had everything you could want and everything designed to maximum use of the space. I was on the 11th floor so had no problem at all with traffic noise, or indeed noise from other guests despite the hotel being full. Excellent breakfast, and the 24 hour coffee in the Library was very much appreciated when I was leaving at 5am! The location is excellent. I was over for Wrestlemania, which was based in New Jersey, so I was getting buses and trains from Port Authority & Penn Station, both of which were really easy to walk to from the hotel. The staff were really friendly - the lady who checked me in also checked me out, and despite not seeing me in the interim remembered that I was over for Wrestlemania and asked how it had been. Check-in and check-out were both really quick, which I fully appreciated after a very long journey. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and will definitely stay here again.

The hotel location is very good. Close to Grand Central Station.
Service in the Hotel is excellent. St the 2nd floor, you can have coffee&tea and some donuts kind a food.
During my stay, every day evening, they have wine party(?) for free.
Breakfast is continental style. Food is same for every day. Therefore, you can be littl tired of hotel breakfast. But, it is still a good breakfast.
Every one working for this Hotel is friendry. Fortunately, I did not see any rude person at all.
I think I will consider staying in this Hotel if I have oppotunity to visit New York again.
I really enjoyed my first New York thanks to this hotel.

We stayed for 10nights in April. Rooms were well appointed and clean. The library on the second floor was fantastic - 24hour tea / coffee / snacks and fresh fruit. Staff were wonderful. Felt like home away from home.
Convenient location next to grand central station. Short walk to NY public library and Bryant Park. Free wifi.

The Library Hotel is beautiful and filled with the finest details. From the high ceilings in the bedroom to the pristine subway tiles in the shower, the design of this boutique hotel is like a grand masterpiece, like stepping back in time. The beds are luxurious and the restaurant decadent. An elegant escape...worth every penny.
