The $60.00 pre-fix dinner couldn't have been more perfect for our pre-Lincoln Centre meal. On a Friday night the place was hopping although its probably always like that and a reservation is a must. The performers at the Centre often eat here and you can see why - world class food, attentive service and a constant buzz. Not very intimate but very New York and while we couldn't afford this on a regular basis it was a great treat for our visit.

In a city which probably has the most High End expensive restaurants of anywhere in the world, competition is exceptionally fierce, and the area surrounding the Lincoln Center is fairly well served and has a very high ration of excellent restaurants. Thus my wife thought she would spring a surprise by taking me to Boulud Sud, which I must have walked past several dozen times cutting through to Central Park.

Initial impressions were excellent - very well lit with an open kitchen and a small detachment if chefs working frenetically just adjacent to a busy bar area. Very popular spots can take some time to get seated even with reservations, but we were sat down within three minutes of entering. Very efficient service and water order taken within five minutes of entering the restaurant. Food splits into three types, 'Garden' (vegetarian)' 'Meat' and 'Sea' although patrons can order from each and mix and match. I took a starter of shrimp which was exceptional - realy fresh and with a fragrant dressing - absolutely gorgeous. For mains a veal bologna isle ragu with orecchiette which was again cooked very nicely - all in all the cuisine really was flawless. Reasonable wine list which I would hazard rotates fairly regularly. Service excellent - waiters knowledgable, adaptive and polite. Less than 15 minutes from order to table on each course.

Bearing in mind this was a Wednesday night (albeit still fairly busy - it's 400 yards from Lincoln Center) I was very impressed. I'd hazard weekend reservations are essential, and the food certainly is not a budget option - but the saying 'you get what you pay for' seems appropriate- for a Special occasion this was definitely worth shelling out - Recommend.

We love near Lincoln Center and this is by far the best area restaurant. The menu is highly innovative featuring combinations found in the best restaurants in Europe. We particular enjoy the opportunity to dine on appetizers (not possible pre theater) in order to sample many dishes. Service is well informed and helpful. Loved the artichokes, ratatouille, octopus and linguini.

We went here for the pre-theater menu, $60 per person for three courses. Generally good food; the pasta dish with sausage was very bland but the chicken tagine was delicious. Generous portions. The waitress forgot our wine order but offered us a second glass each to make up for it, which was nice.

The restaurant atmosphere is kind of hard to describe, but I couldn't help thinking I was on the Upper East Side in the 1990's. Elegant but somewhat stuffy with a mature crowd. But a good choice for a pre-Lincoln Center event; they timed it perfectly for our performance.

If you are in the Lincoln Center area and you want to dine at a wonderful restaurant which is not an easy feat in this neck of the woods, walk do not run to 'Boulud Sud'. I honestly think I prefer the menu here and the ambiance to the flagship restaurant 'Daniel'. The staff (from the Manager to the busboys) are top draw and friendly and bend over backwards to make your meal wonderful. The room is just perfect. Upcale yet cozy with stunning antique French Pottery and rustic , french country items placed along the stainless steel counters of the open kitchen. It is touches like this that you make you remember why Boulud is Boulud. I was tempted to ask about buying one of the French antique pottery. The menu! Incredible. You can't go wrong. The special bread with honey and yogurt as part of a starter is out of this world and only $4! The other appetizers we tried, Leek and potato soup and a salad of fresh seafood and greens over a delectable 'Middle Eastern like' light paste (do I taste chestnuts in there with fool?) are amazing. The Pasta with duck ragout was sensational as was the fresh fish served in a reduced vegetable sauce. All of the desserts are formidable as we requested a tasting plate. Such a lovely bustling yet calm atmosphere just adds to a perfect evening before the theatre or after the theatre or...just to make the restaurant your destination in itself..it is that Superb!
