“best staff!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

We stayed at the Chandler for seven days, and it turned out to be the perfect place for us. Located in a not too busy street, within walking distance of the Empire State Building and many other attractions, very close to many great restaurants. The room was very nice, but not too spacious(ok, it´s N.Y.). But the best was the staff - everybody was very friendly and helpful, but also highly professional. All of them made us feel welcome, and the front desk(especially Lubi!) did a great job giving tips, making reservations and sending us in the right direction. Definitely worldclass - it´s our new benchmark.

Dear Chris K,

I am so happy that the staff treated you so highly and went above and beyond to make sure you had an enjoyable stay with us. We are very fortunate have employees like Lubi that are highly motivated and understand the true meaning of service. I will make sure to pass along your comments to her.

We look forward to welcoming you back,

Yours sincerely,

This is a very nice small hotel with updated rooms and lobby completed a year or so ago according to Mgt. Some might think the rooms are small but it is a renovation of an older building. Our room was 12 x 15 open floor area plus bath. Custom cabinetry provided closets and drawers, desk and minifridge. The newly tiled bath was very attractively fitted with walk in shower. The shower head directly overhead took some getting used too. The Frette bath towels were huge, a full 72 in long and very thick. The bathroom was a little small, a large person may find it hard to maneuver. Terry bath robes are provided. The large triple window overlooked a side alley, but new double paned glass kept out noise. There is quite a bit of construction about including directly across the street from the front entrance. Just site prep now but construction on a new hotel is to begin later in the summer. All of this activity detracts from the street appearance of the hotel but hopefully this is temporary and not any worse than other streets scenes that we saw. Thus rooms overlooking the street may be less quiet. The hotel restaurant and bar are being updated and will reopen in the summer. Meanwhile an expansive continental breakfast is served in the lounge and sitting room. Location is perfect. three short blocks to the crosstown bus and 34th st subway station on 34th st and ten short blocks to Grand Central subway station on 42nd st.. Two or three long blocks to the west is Penn Station. We saw no group tours at the hotel and so the atmosphere was quiet and refined, Pricing seemed to be in line with other hotels investigated. In all it was a good choice for our requirements for location and nearness to transportation. Enjoy

Room Tip: Overlooking the street may be a bit noisy. There is no pool or kids activities

+very professional and friendly. We really felt that employees were interested in their guests. Wishes and requests were taken care of.
+complaints were handled expertedly (we had to switch room first night as on the exterior a tube was having a problem).
+Very nice and helpful concierge (Charlie) and staff at reception and good cleaning.
+super location - near to 2 subway stations and next to many NY highlights

- unfortunately renovation ongoing so that restaurant couldn't be used - but for future guest this shouldn't be a topic

Recently had 10 days at the chandler hotel in NY. It is currently undergoing some fairly extensive renovation works and the bar and restaurant were closed. A nice touch was complimentary drinks and nibbles in the lobby between 5 and 8pm.
Found the ac a bit noisy and the bathroom very small but then this is new York.
Location to subway was good, staff especially the concierge were very helpful and patient explaining the best thinks to do and eat at.
Would recommend.

Thank you, Hotel Chandler, for a great stay. The reviews I'd read on trip advisor had talked up the excellence of the staff, so I went in with certain expectations. Within the first hour I was there, I had the chance to witness what I'd heard so much about. We entered our deluxe 2 queen room, which was a pretty, well-appointed, Manhattan-sized hotel room, and found that there was no bath tub. This would've been fine for me, as the shower in the room was one of the most impressive I'd seen -- an oversized shower head fixed to the ceiling which blasted hot water. However, my wife couldn't get her hair wet, as we had a wedding to attend in a couple nights, so we called the front desk and they upgraded us to a beautiful Superior King at no extra charge. They were exceptionally swift and accommodating, and we were both extremely grateful. Everyone we interacted with on the staff, from chamber maids, to the front desk staff, to the doorman, all went out of their way for us at every opportunity, and did so with genuine enthusiasm. I think it says a lot for the hotel ownership and management that such kindness is infused through their organization. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate excellent service above most everything else, especially when it comes to hotels and restaurants. If all things are equal in terms of price, location, and level of appointment between Hotel Chandler and another property you're considering, I cannot recommend Hotel Chandler highly enough!

The first room we were given was facing an inner courtyard, meaning that we had direct view on a brick wall 5 m away from the window, needless to say that there was little light entering the room. We asked to change andthe manager accomodated us in a room on 31st st which as much better. But both rooms were still fairly small and cramped once the luggage were opened... The bathroom is also minuscule. Location is good with subway stations nearby andhe area is quite and safe at night. Altogether not a bad experience but not sure i would go back...

Dear pjeanne:

Thank you for your review. I understand your disappointment in the lack of view and I am happy that we were able to move you to a better suited room. Unfortunately in NYC due to the proximity and height of the buildings surrounding us a guaranteed view is difficult. Due to the fact that we are a 1905 landmark building each room is different in its lay out and some do have smaller bathrooms.

Once again thank you for your comments.

Yours sincerely,
Kate Martin

Location was fantastic for us, easy walking to all of our favorites. Easy access to the 6 train for the locations that were a bit further out. The Hotel itself was modern, tastefully decorated, and clean! The Hotel Staff was professional and very helpful with all aspects of our stay.

We had one small issue with our room the 1st night and the whole thing was handled quickly and professionally. We really could not have asked for better service from the entire staff (thank you Michel, George & Millie) We would definitely stay with you again!

Travelers Note: Remember to tip your Housecleaning staff...whatever is in your budget...we had fantastic ladies tidying up our room and making sure we always had fresh towels and amenities. We made sure to leave her an obvious tip each day (I wrote "thank you" on a note pad and placed it on the bed) You should all ready be in the habit of tipping when you come to this city...DON'T forget these people!

Room Tip: The only two rooms I know of personally... Room 425 - 1 Queen - interrior facing windows means qui...
