“Amazingly small rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

On arrival we were pleasantly surprised how atmospheric the main reception and public areas were. They reminded me of something I could visualise in The Arabian Knights. The sun terrace on floor 15 was also a nice haven of relaxation in this otherwise hot and bustling city.

As for the rest of the hotel I was less sure. The staff were pleasant enough and tried to be helpful, supplying a kettle for our room upon request. We were under the impression that we had ordered a room with complimentary drinks and snacks, but were assured this was not the case. We were a little happier when given a $35 credit, until two orange juices immediately stung us for thirteen of our dollars. We abandoned any notion of our hotel being able to supply us with any viable refreshment, but we're not perturbed as there must have been literarily hundreds of places to eat within a stones throw of our stay.

Although hardly a major concern, the room corridors, low lit and with an interesting, grey-green colour scheme were like something from a prison documentary. The room was smaller than even I had bargained for, but everything was well placed, the air con worked well and the bed surprisingly was comfortable. We were able to have a good sleep, which we were not expecting.

Our four day stay was adequate as Hudson's is well placed between 8th and 9th and on 57th Street, handy for lots of attractions. Apart from the main lobby and bar area, there was no character to this hotel and I found the staff to be "corporately polite" rather than be genuinely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better for less noise.

Rupert E,

Thank you for writing a review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed our location and the convenience it offers, however, we wish we had more of a positive impact on your stay. We are sorry about the mishap with your room package, I do hope the $35 credit was satisfactory to your needs. It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to host you again and hopefully this time we can ensure all points of your stay go beyond your expectations.

Kind Regards,
Sabrina

The Hotel is located near Central Park and the location can not be beaten. The sights in Uptoen, like Rockefeller Centre, Times Square, Empire State Building, Shopping on 5th, etc. can be walked to. The rooms are small, however the rooftop Bar and the Bar behind the lobby are one of NYC's hot spot at the moment. Great crowd. The only downside is the poor Service, such as long queues at check in and out, poor wifi

Room Tip: Use one of the rooms Not facing the courtyard, because of the noise of the bar

tirol76,

Thank you for contributing a review about your recent experience at Hudson. We are sorry to hear you had a poor experience with our service. We understand our guests needs to get to places and we certainly do not want to keep them waiting. I hope this does not deter you from visiting us in the future. Please reach out to me directly when you plan your next stay in NYC.

Incredibly tiny rooms -- in fact, the smallest rooms I've found in the U.S. I'm not a large guys, but I could hardly turn around in the bathroom. While the location is good (walking distance to Central Park), I would not recommend this hotel. There are much better alternatives.

Johnsmurf,

I do regret to see that the size of the room took away from your overall experience. Here at Hudson, we have several different room categories. I usually recommend at least a Deluxe for guests who are looking to have a little more space in their room. If you were to give Hudson a second chance in the future, I can help you select a room that will best suit your needs.

I hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for the feedback.

Best,

The hotel is nice, well located and the balance price - quality is very good.
I got a room during fashion week and paid a very convenient price if compared to the other hotels in the city.
The only downside is the size of the rooms, they are way too small, but besides that they are very clean and the staff is very friendly.

Eddy R,

Thank you for sharing your experience and choosing to stay at HUDSON during your NYC trip. Hopefully you will be back in the near future and can try one of our upgraded room categories. I usually recommend at least a Deluxe room for guests who want a little more space.

Thank you again for the review.

- Excellent Location: walking distance (less than 5 minutes) close to Central ParK, Lincoln center, Columbus circle, Time Warner center..; nearby also markets and starbucks.
- Rooftop with Sky Terrace: 15th floor, Amazing view! Comfortable chairs and sunbed; bar service.
- Courtesy and kindness of front desk; big lobby with garden and bar in the background;
- Cool guests; trendy New Yorkers also go there for drinks.
- Small but comfortable and modern rooms (ask for a silent room, mine was noisy!)
- free Wi fi
- Enjoy!

We recently stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in a Studio Room. We were aware from reviews that we had read that the basic rooms were quite small. The studio room was a reasonable size with a fridge and a safe. Unlike the bed which was very comfortable the white lounge and single chair were not very comfortable. We were on the 16th floor overlooking the 15th level entertainment area but were not bothered by any noise. Room was clean and the staff were efficient and friendly. Lobby large with subdued lighting and the lighting I throughout is reduced. Air conditioning efficient but fan on noisy side
Being older the bar areas were not for us as they were very loud and sometimes crowded.
The hotel is ideally situated to many of New Yorks most popular sites. The closest subway is at Columbus Circle two blocks away.
9th Ave which starts 100 yards away from hotel has numerous restaurants and bars if the hotel bars are not to your taste, some are open 24 hours. Within a very short distance from hotel all tastes are catered for. We would be happy to stay there again

Room Tip: Ask for room on higher floor to avoid noise from bars

Piedpiper660,

Thank you for your review and staying with us at Hudson while visiting New York. I'm glad you took full advantage of our central location! If you return to Hudson in the future, I would recommend Library Bar as one of the venues that you should try. This venue is a lot more laid back and doesn't have a DJ playing on the weekends like our other venues. Also, during the summer Sky Terrace during the day is very relaxing.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Best,

Interesting place to stay. Clearly a lot of work has been done to mask the building age and challenges. Bright paintwork no very expertly covering an aging infrastructure in the coridoors. Some of the same signs in the typical NYC sized rooms (ie on the small size). The staff are super friendly and can't apologize enough for the (for example) slow ellevator service. Nice terrace on floor 15 but not the advertised cocktails. Bohemian clientele mix and really close to Central Park.

Ryryry4,

I must agree...Hudson is a very unique boutique hotel. This past year we underwent a $30+ million dollar renovation of all guestrooms, hallways, public spaces, restaurant and bars. We changed the color of our hallways to accommodate many guest requests for them to be brighter.

I am glad that our staff were accommodating and gracious when dealing with any issues brought to their attention.

If you decide to return to Hudson, please contact me directly so that we can explore our different rooming options. We several room categories that provide our guests with more space.

Best,

Ginelle Correa
